Our 20th Anniversary SEF Thurgood Marshall College Fund Brunch was a resounding success today. With support from the Phoenix Alphas, local businesses and corporations, the Divine 9, and many generous organizations/individuals, we were able to raise thousands of dollars in scholarship funds for college-bound youth. Thank you to the community for showing up and showing out, once again!

We’re excited to announce that we will host a raffle at our 20th Anniversary SEF Thurgood Marshall College Fund Brunch for two weekend passes to the Arizona Jazz Festival in Glendale on October 25-27! You must attend the brunch on September 21 in order to enter the raffle!

Today, we remember Justice Thurgood Marshall (July 2, 1908 - January 24, 1993).

Thurgood Marshall was an American lawyer who was appointed as an associate justice of the Supreme Court in 1967. He was the first African American to hold the position and served for 24 years, until 1991. Marshall studied law at Howard University. As counsel to the NAACP, he utilized the judiciary to champion equality for African Americans. In 1954, he won the Brown v. Board of Education case, in which the Supreme Court ended racial segregation in public schools.

Thurgood Marshall was instrumental in ending legal segregation and became the first African American justice of the Supreme Court.
