You may have seen that there has been a TEMPORARY exemption for passengers who transit AIRSIDE through the UK in which these passengers do not need to apply for the new UK travel authorization (ETA).

VERY IMPORTANT: For US passport holders traveling to Europe (other than Northern Ireland) via the UK will pass through UK border control upon entering the UK. This exemption does not pertain to you. YOU WILL STILL NEED TO APPLY FOR THE UK TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (ETA).

Also, the fee will increase to £16 (formerly £10). This is subject to UK government approval and as of January 16th, it remains £10 according to the ETA website. The ETA is valid for 2 years or if you receive a new passport; whichever comes first. I encourage travelers to apply now to avoid the increase. I have completed this myself and the process was fairly easy and quick.

On May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. A valid Passport will also work.

** NEW UK ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (ETA) **

Effective for travel starting January 8, 2025, the United Kingdom is implementing a new regulation requiring all travelers who do not hold a passport to the United Kingdom or Ireland, to obtain an electronic visa known as the UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK by air or sea, which encompasses England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This will be required for all guests embarking and/or disembarking from the UK, ports of call to the destination, AS WELL AS TRANSITING THROGH THE UK.

Please note the ETA can take up to three business days to obtain. As such, you are strongly encouraged to begin the application process as soon as it becomes available. If your country currently requires a visa to enter the UK, this requirement remains unchanged. The ETA, priced at 10 GBP per application, will be issued electronically and will remain valid for two years or until the associated passport expires, allowing for multiple entries into the UK during this period.

Many resorts in Mexico/Caribbean have swim-up suites, in-room jacuzzis, and stunning ocean views, but none other than Casa de la Playa in Mexico has an incredible jellyfish aquarium in every room! Sitting by the aquarium, watching the jellyfish float by is the perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring. I have seen a lot of cool things at resorts, but this is at the top.

I don't book just cruises. :-)

Two lovely ladies came to me to book a trip through Italy, top to bottom, via the train. We customized it so that they would feel comfortable staying in locations that would be most convenient to them since this is their first time traveling on their own through Europe. Ok folks keep your eyes peeled (but don't look directly at the Eclipse 😅). When Oceania’s preview is out, look for the sailing on Marina July 30, 2026. They will have an astronomer onboard and will be sailing for the Eclipse.

The UK Government has announced the next phase in the roll out of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). An ETA gives visitors permission to travel to the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). By April 2025, all visitors who do not need a visa will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to the UK.

An ETA for American visitors will be required to enter the UK starting January 8, 2025. Americans can apply in advance starting November 27, 2024.

The ETA will be linked to the traveler's passport and will last for two years or until the traveler's passport expires – whichever comes first.

Dates and Requirements:

- Eligible non-Europeans can apply in advance from November 27, 2024 and will need an ETA to travel from 8 January 2025.
- Eligible Europeans can apply from March 5, 2025 and will need an ETA to travel from 2 April 2025.

Costs:
An ETA costs £10 and permits multiple journeys to the UK for stays of up to six months at a time over two years or until the holder’s passport expires.

Home Office is hosting a series of ETA information events for travel, tourism, business travellers and education organizations with dates available between September and December. The events provide the opportunity for businesses to hear about how travel to the UK is changing, and to ask questions. Register on GOV.UK.

VisitBritain will continue to provide updates on the ETA in their monthly newsletters.

Well, that's a wrap! After a week onbored the Norwegian Joy for a travel conference with 500 other travel agents from around the US, I'm happy to be home. I met with so many different travel suppliers - both cruise and land. It's so good to reconnect with suppliers that I already work with and to meet new ones that I look forward to working with in the future. I toured the ship, toured each port (Eastern Canada), I got to experience many of the activities on board (race track was fun), had a Mojito flight in the Mojito bar, drank many glasses of wine, ate fabulous food, went the show, and of course attended many sessions showcasing our travel partners. I mean, it was work after all. Ha ha.
