Have you been avoiding Nicaragua due to its violent past? You should know the risks from the 90s have been replaced by fun, adventure, and relaxation. Here’s what to know before you go!
The U.S. has two warnings levels for Nicaragua.
Level 3 – Reconsider Travel
The first is a Level 3 warning due to lack of healthcare options. This means you will want to invest in travel insurance that can get you to a proper facility or back home in an emergency.
Level 2 – Use Increased Caution
The 2nd is a level 2 warning due to crime and wrongful detention. The basics rules here are: avoid drawing attention to yourself and do not talk about politics or any other controversial subject while there.
Subscribe to OZZI if you want to avoid risky areas and get real-time safety alerts for your trip.
If you follow these basics, you’re going to have an amazing time in Nicaragua while exploring old world architecture, getting surfing lessons, or doing some sledding on an active volcano.

This week millions in Mexico and Indonesia received warnings that nearby volcanos might erupt. Here’s why volcanos are so dangerous and how you can survive an eruption.
🌋 During an eruption, ash, lava, gases, and rocks are launched in random directions at more than 100 miles per hour. The ash alone can be up to 1200º, which bakes anything in its path.
📣 The good news is that volcanos rarely erupt without warning. That’s why it is important to heed the evacuation advice of officials when they let you know things are getting serious.
💨 During an eruption, get away from the pyroclastic flow as soon as possible. Take a car, don’t walk. If you can’t get away, find shelter, close up everything, then turn off fans and the A/C.
Volcanic eruptions should be taken seriously. OZZI members get notified of volcanic activity and other safety events in real-time. Download today and stay safer anywhere in the world.

Some schools are getting out in about a month and that means it’s time to start thinking about summer road trips. If you’re getting your kicks on Route 66, check out these safety tips.
🚘 Make sure your car’s in good shape: I’m talking tire tread, fluid levels, and especially the lights. Trust me, highway patrol gets bored and fighting an out of state ticket is no fun.
🧘♀️ Next, be patient. It’s not just backseat drivers and attention starved kids, road rage can be exhausting too. Because the driver sets the tone for an entire trip it’s important to always keep your cool!
⚠️ Finally, watch out for hazards. It’s more than potholes and debris that can get in the way of your plans, you need to make sure that every stop is safe.
Use OZZI on your road trips and automatic alerts if you enter areas with crime or gun violence. You’ll also get emergency alerts for wildfires in forests or protests in cities.

If you are traveling to Japan for the cherry blossoms, you are going to want to know these 3 tips.
1) 🙇 Try bowing before a handshake when greeting. It is a sign of respect and shows local residents you care about their culture.
2) 🥢 Avoid pointing with chopsticks. Rest your chopsticks on their pillow before pointing or capturing someone’s attention.
3) 🌸 Visit during Golden Week. April 29th through May 5th is the longest consecutive and most celebrated holiday season in Japan. For peak cherry blossoms during the holiday, visit Sapporo in Northern Japan.

🍷 There are a ton of options. Between the wineries, city life, and coasts there really is something for everyone body.
🏩 Stay at a hotel vs a rental. Crime can be problematic for tourists – especially after dark. Because there tends to be more people and security, hotels can be safer than private homes.
🗺️ Know where you are booking. Cape Town has quite a few risky areas and no likes those kinds of surprises. Several areas are known for elevated gang activity, and you will want to take extra precautions if you are hiking on Table Mountain.

Today is the first day of Women’s History month and we’re celebrating a few of the women who pioneered solo female travel.
Jeanne Baret was the first woman to circumnavigate the world and she did it by wrapping her chest and sleeping with a pistol.
Bessie Coleman was the first Black and Native American woman to earn a pilot’s license in the 1920s. Her outrageous stunts earning her the nickname “Queen Bess”.
Ellen Church fought for the rights of women to work on planes. At a time when flying was new for most, she argued: “How is a man going to say he is afraid to fly when a woman is working on the plane?”
When these women were told they couldn’t, they found a way to realize their dreams and inspire generations.
