Gatlinburg's oldest steakhouse, Howard's, is still standing, still strong after nearly 80 years in business. Enjoy a beautiful day like today on their newly remodeled creekside patio. You can also get a meal at Best Italian from that same patio. Good eats!😋

This is very helpful info for parking in the Smokies.

The Park It Forward program will require visitors to purchase and display a parking tag for any vehicle parking within the national park for more than 15 minutes.

The Cades Cove loop will be closed next week. Heads up if you’re heading to the Smokies!

Gatlinburg, Tenn – Great Smoky Mountains National Park will remove hazard trees in Cades Cove on Jan. 20-Jan. 24. This includes removing brush from the side of the road to keep vegetation from hitting passing vehicles and removing all hazard trees that could fall onto the road.

It’s a winter wonderland out there!

As the winter storm continues, visitor centers and most roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park remain closed for visitor and employee safety.

We continue to monitor the weather and roads and will share an update on conditions tomorrow morning. Please consult our Current Conditions page for the latest information on all park roads.

Don’t forget about this trail project!

Laurel Falls Trail closes today for 18 months of rehabilitation work. The project includes improvements to the trail and more than 50 new parking spaces.

In the meantime, the park has plenty of hikes you can enjoy. Some of our favorites include:
✔️Lynn Camp Prong Cascades (1.4 miles roundtrip)
✔️Chasteen Creek Cascades (3.6 miles roundtrip)
✔️Little River, Cucumber Gap, Jakes Creek Loop (5.4 miles roundtrip, stick to Little River Trail to easily shorten)
✔️Deep Creek Waterfall Loop (2.4 miles roundtrip)
✔️Elkmont, Sugarlands, Cove Hardwood and Smokemont nature trails (varying lengths)

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the spookiest flower in the Smokies: ghost pipe! 👻

This hauntingly beautiful bloom is lurking in the darkest corners of the forest, and you better keep an eye out, because this eerie flower doesn’t need any sunlight.

The secret to its unique nature lies in its lack of chlorophyll (green plant pigment responsible for photosynthesis) and its ability to survive as a parasitic plant, feeding on its host. Nature can be wonderfully mysterious.
