Nicole Blake Interiors Nicole Blake Interiors (NBI) is a boutique design firm specializing in luxury interior design.

Nicole Blake is the founder of Pittsburgh-based Nicole Blake Interiors. Nicole holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design, Graduate Studies in Interior Architecture, and studied European Art and Architecture abroad in Paris with Parsons School of Art and Design. During her college studies, Nicole was also a Teacher Assistant to the Dean of the Interior Design program at the Art Institut

e of Pittsburgh and is currently an Instructor of Real Estate and Interior Design with the Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh. Nicole has nearly twenty years of extensive experience in high-end residential design, and successfully assisted in the development of a 135-acre equestrian estate—the largest residential sale in the region. She collaborates directly with respected architects, builders, vendors, and planning professionals to ensure timely completion of her projects and prides herself in attention to every detail. As a creative force, Nicole uses her strong aesthetic vision to create unique and timeless interiors that are true reflections of her clients and the NBI brand. With a traveled eye and a storyteller’s keen sensitivity for capturing meaningful detail, Nicole creates spaces that are a true reflection of beauty, emotion, and memory. Believing that no two interiors — just as no two stories are ever the same — she approaches each new project with a philosophy that design begins with the history of a space and the people who live within them. Inspiration showing just the right balance of refrained elegance to ensure a timeless design.

With projects like this, one of the considerations is to know when there are enough impressive features — you can only have so many design elements before it feels over done and dates badly.

This design takes your breath away when you walk in and whispers rather than shouts luxury. Choices made to balance the opulent architecture and finishes include adding a wool runner and simplifying the banister design on the staircase, using understated lanterns in the hallways, a honed finish on the marble, and plain silk on most of the paneling with a chinoiserie limited to internal panels.

This luxurious space feels sophisticated and comfortable due to implementing some restrained finishes and fixtures.

New England architecture believes in designs that have their roots in the past. If a design is strong enough to withstand the test of time, and Northeastern winters, it must have something going for it.

This pool house’s octangular bay, flanked by boxwood planters, faces the pool terrace from a number of angles. French doors, crowned with oval windows, offer panoramic views across the terrace. The whole composition is capped with lead-coated copper, bell-shaped roof, clad in quilted diamond pattern panels.

A distinctive farmhouse in the countryside of upstate New York.

The earliest homes that we can call farmhouses were those built by early colonial families and owners. The homes often began as Colonial-style structures and then added upon with multiple utilitarian additions.

Stone and timber were predominant structural elements in regions where these materials were readily available. Classic forms and details from the Greek Revival, Georgian, and Victorian architectural eras were common added styles of the home and reflected in the additional structures that were often attached.

These buildings today are some of the most beautiful and iconic combinations of structures seen, and give many people a sense of peace and tranquility by reflecting the landscape around them and blending harmoniously with nature.
