Our last evening on the ship was a special one. The crew was dressed up and served us baked Alaska in a celebratory send off. We were then treated to an evening cruise on the Danube so we could enjoy the city lights. It was spectacular! I must say, this was a trip of a lifetime. Thank you for following along with me!

The cruise ended in Budapest which was a beautiful city located on both sides of the Danube. We spent 2 days there. The first day, we took the local street cars to the Covered Market where local’s purchased their meat, fish, cheeses etc. and the tourists purchased souvenirs and paprika! Our guide, who is from Budapest, said they put paprika in everything…

On our way to Budapest, we had another beautiful cruise down the Danube River and even went through a lock. I haven’t been to the Panama Canal (yet!) but this is similar to what the larger ships go through. Very cool!!

FOOD!!

What can I say but the food on this ship was amazing!! I started being good in the beginning - not too much bread, salad for lunch, only half of the dessert.. but slowly that gave way to eating anything and everything I could LOL!!

In Bratislava, the capitol of Slovakia, we visited a home a local citizen. We got a chance to see how the locals live. Anna was a wonderful host and we learned a lot! We also visited a school for underprivileged children as part of the foundation that Grand Circle Cruise supports. The children put on performances for us, they were adorable! We love that this company gives back to the communities they visit!

In the afternoon I found a little amusement park where one of the scenes of the film was shot on the historic Riesenrad, a Ferris wheel which first opened in 1897. The cars were large enough to walk around and actually could hold several people. I also went on one of the smaller roller coasters. The park was free to enter and got more crowded in the evening. This wasn't as nice as Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, but I enjoyed it!

On the 2nd day in Vienna, we had some free time. My plan was to just stroll round the city. I love the 1995 movie "Before Sunrise" with Ethan Hawke and French Actress, Julie Delpy. They are two college-age students who meet on a train to Vienna. They end up wondering the streets of Vienna all night before his flight back to America in the morning. I wanted to find some of the locations where they filmed. I got off the shuttle and an older woman named Linda, from our boat was by herself and asked if she could tag along. She said she would rather get lost with someone else then by herself - LOL! We had a blast on our "treasure hunt" as she called it, finding some of the locations - and we did! We found the cafe called Kleines where we (and the actors) had a coffee, however we didn't notice the "cash only" sign until after we ordered. She didn't have any Euros on here and I didn't have that much on me. Luckily, I had just enough to cover the bill with a small tip - whew!

We had two full days in Vienna, Austria - said to be the birthplace of classical music. Very beautiful city. We had a walking tour of the old part of the city in the morning and free time in the afternoon.

I ended up haven’t lunch at the oldest restaurant in Vienna - Zum Figlmuller. They have been serving their signature dish of Weiner Schnitzel since 1907. It’s a piece of pork pounded flat and lightly fried. It was huge!

In the afternoon we toured the State Opera House - it was beautiful!

Next up was the small village of Durnstein, Austria and one of my favorites so far! Small cobblestone alleyways, little shops, and cafes
is what this town is all about. It's located in the Wachau Wine Region. They make primarily white wines like Riesling. Normally Riesling wine is too sweet for my tastes, however here it's very dry -I love it!

Our first town in Austria was Linz where we visited a concentration camp. This was my first time experiencing something like this. It was so sad and such a sobering experience. I chose not to take any photos. After lunch, we had a chance to tour the town. It was very nice but our free time got cut short by a massive rain storm. Living in Florida has spoiled me - 40 degrees and rain was not my idea of a fun afternoon out!

Overnight we moved down the river to the town of Melk. We toured the Abby in the moring and walked a lovely path through a small forrest to the ship. Spring is budding here on the Danube River!

The photo with the tower is a tower of books! It's located in the library in Prague. When you look inside, there are mirrors, so it looks like it goes on forever. It's was actually a traveling art exhibit but they loved it so much, they decided to keep it. It's called "The Power of Books"

We were visiting the Castle District, where the President of Prague lives, and we happened to be there as he and his wife were welcoming the President of the Philippines! The band was playing as the motorcade arrived - very cool!

I'm about to experience my first River Cruise! I’ve been in Prague, Czech Republic for a few days and getting on the boat later today. Prague is a very clean, safe and charming city. This is one of the only countries that wasn't bombed in WWII so the buildings in the old part of city are really old! The Charles Bridge was built in 1357 and it's in great shape!! Can you imagine?

We had a wonderful day at the Panther Ridge Conservation Center yesterday! This is a non-profit organization who rescues and takes care of endangered big cats. We saw leopards, cheetahs, panthers, jaguars and even got to feed some of them! If you are ever in the Palm Beach County area, check them out and spead the word. They could use our support!
