Effective 8 p.m. EST (Jan 23), ALL LANES of EASTBOUND and WESTBOUND Interstate 10 (I-10) are back open to traffic. With freezing temperatures still anticipated and winter weather conditions still in effect, remember to drive with extreme caution.

🪚🛠 URGENT - FOSTERS NEEDED🛠🪚
Construction has begun on our outside dog holding area. These pups desperately need a place to go for at least two days while we build and insulate their area. This insulation will be done on August 19th so the dogs will need to be picked up on August 18th and kept until the 20th or 21st to give plenty of time for the fumes to go away. Vacationers are welcome to join in on the fun of fostering a dog as well. All supplies will be provided. We have so many lovely dogs that would also love a break from the shelter. But in light of evidence of unfriendly viewing practices last night, we thought it would be a good time to remind our beach-goers of what to do should you be lucky enough to witness a momma sea turtle coming ashore to lay her eggs or emerging hatchlings making their way to the water:

🐢Keep your distance: Staying at least 50 feet away can prevent the turtle from leaving the beach before finishing its nest.

🐢Stay quiet: Avoid making noise.

🐢Keep your hands off: Don't touch the turtle or put other objects near it.

🐢Turn off lights: This includes cell phones, flashlights, and other light sources.

🐢Let hatchlings crawl: Allow them to make their own way to the ocean. Getting in their way can confuse them and prevent them from finding their way. The trip to the water also helps them learn their surroundings and for females to remember their home beach.

Give them space, leave no trace, and keep our sea turtles in the dark... it's up to all of us to help make this a successful nesting season.

The Gulf County Board of County Commissioners has issued a Local State of Emergency for Gulf County due to Tropical Storm Idalia.
Voluntary Evacuations have been issued for Indian Pass & low lying areas. Mandatory evacuations for all visitors North of the stump hole. Mandatory evacuations for Recreational Vehicles along C30 and Highway 98 from the Franklin County Line to Mexico Beach including all of Cape San Blas, Simmons Bayou, Indian Pass, Highlandview, and St Joe Beach.
