The evolution of the consumer:
The days of driving around from store to store are over. Whether you own a furniture store or an auto dealership.
Driving from store to store, is what we call a "monkey" from a consumer evolutionary standpoint. We have evolved. Hey - fuel is expensive these days, and people are lazy right?
A "neanderthal" still exists today, but is not very common either. A neanderthal who is looking for their next leather sectional will go on google and search "leather sectional white in Boise Idaho" for example.
This google search result will show them a few furniture stores in their area with links to their websites. This neanderthal will have to search the individual store's website inventory.
Today's consumer - a human, will go to a portal to find their next sofa sectional, or Honda Accord. They will go to a place that shows them ALL sofa sectionals in their area, where they can decide on which store to call, and inquire, and hopefully pay a visit to, to see it in person.
Those "portals" are sites like Craigslist, Facebook, Letgo etc...
If you are not on those sites, posting well and consistently, you are missing out, there is no doubt.
It is important for businesses to evolve. At the very least, evolve with the consumer. Don't be left behind.
