I skipped working on projects and home decor all summer long... did you work on anything fun? If so, post below!
Now that the first now has fallen and I'm turning more towards staying indoors... I will be starting to rearrange the decor and do a "fall/winter cleaning".

It's SPRING! As we all start to spring clean our homes, I'm sure we'll find furniture or decor we either no longer want or no longer like. Donate what you don't want and CHANGE a piece you no longer love! Find an older table that has amazing bones but the color doesn't go with your theme any longer? There's something about a flocked, freshly-cut-by-your-hubby Christmas tree that adds such elegance to your home. I haven't added our long time favorite ornaments yet but so far this is how our cozy formal living room looks.

I found a beautiful fireplace surround last year and wanted it for our bedroom, even though we have no fireplace. I thought it was cute with some lights behind it and my vintage picket fence as a "fireplace screen". But come this fall I wanted to add the ambiance of a faux fire. I found a cute little electric fireplace insert and we got to it! Hibs helped me build a hearth and pocket for the insert. It's perfect and exactly how I imagined it! Now our master suite is cozier than ever!

Before and after time!

I found an old Singer sewing machine with beautiful scroll work on the side and detailed wood drawers online for $60 and got the idea to turn it into a wine and coffee bar! Wine bottles fit perfectly into the slots where the drawers were (which I'll be using separately in another project!). My hubs helped me disassemble it and remove the machine. Then I got to painting and adding beadboard to the top. We added slots for wine glasses to hang and we were done! It turned out beautifully!

This summer has been a busy one! Not much time for decor but what about sprucing up your patio with some fun colors!? Adding a bright rug and cushions can give an extra punch of fun to your outdoor parties and BBQs! Add in some chippy old rocking chairs and a funky ceramic garden stool and you're set for an evening of relaxation!

Another before and after! This beautiful buffet was in need of a new home. It's details and solid wood construction made it easy to refinish in an off white Annie Sloan chalk paint with clear wax. I left the top natural and sanded and sealed it with a matte finish. This piece is now in our dining room and it's gorgeous! A little paint can really give new life to something you're wanting to switch out or unsure about.

Before and after. An antique buffet that needed some help and fixing. Ended up painting it an off white and leaving the top natural. Love how beautiful this came out!

Before and after. Honey oak cabinets in a kitchen can really give a dark and heavy feeling, let alone make it look smaller. These were painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (Pure white / old white mix). A little distressing and three coats of wax really made this kitchen open up! Adding hardware can give a whole new look as well. Don't be afraid to paint!

I made a 12" Pom Pom wreath as a tester... I love how it turned out but I need to adjust for balance. I'll create an 18" and replace this one.
But it gives an idea of how to incorporate a fun wreath into your normal decor! Change up the color for the holidays or leave it neutral!

Add a banner to your Christmas tree, instead of the traditional garland, for a different look. I may add some tinsel as well, I love that old look so much!

Made a tool caddy from some vintage shutters and old cedar wood and added a branch as the handle. Put in some lights, some greens with berries and a scarf, it's a darling centerpiece!

The Paint Colors Designers Can't Stand

Such a good little tidbit for people to read who are looking at painting an accent wall in their home or a whole room!

Be careful of the colors you think you might want, they an be overpowering and hard to make work with your current furniture (or other walls colors near by). Always buy a test pot first and paint in different lighted areas. Check it at all different times of the day and night before going for the gusto! Colors can look more blue than green, more pink than red, more BOLD than you had anticipated or not vibrant enough!

From a vintage sale find, to the finished product!

I had been looking for some old funky lanterns for quite some time to put the image in my head to work...finally last weekend I found them! There was a French newspaper from 1970 stuffed up in the one lantern, which was interesting. Got some black brackets from the hardware store and drilled them into these very old windows, which are in their original condition. Now these hang on either side of our entertainment center in our second living room. So perfect! You never know what you'll come across at barn sales, vintage gatherings or in someone's attic!

Need something rustic and different in your home? Add a skull or something taxidermy related....maybe just some horns as the centerpiece of your dining table with candles and greenery. Or two horns as the pull backs for your curtains, or a place to hang your coffee mugs.

My father gave me this intact deer skull he found one year while hunting. A cougar killed it, so the nose is broken off. I boiled the skull and cleaned it up, then sealed it and painted it. My husband helped secure it to the plaque I painted and it looks perfect above our mantle!

Recent kitchen update for a friend. We changed out her can light above the sink to a beautiful pendant light with a vintage style bulb. We also painted over her dark red walls with a light green color and it brighten and opened up her kitchen a considerable amount! A little paint goes a long way! Remember to test your paint color before you paint the whole area. You want to be sure it's not going to make your space look small and enclosed.

It's the little details that transform any room. I've added white birch branches to a wire basket, next to the fireplace, for a more rustic feel. It brings in more texture and a natural element to the room.
