Mirabella is doing wonderfully! She is now jumping only my arm, rather enthusiastically. Then she runs straight to my shoulder. She is sitting on me while I walk through the house and getting comfortable moving around with me. Her adoption will be finalized very soon!

Mirabella did wonderful with her beak trim this afternoon. She has a case of scissor beak which is a misalignment between the upper and lower portions of the beak. We are hoping that regular grooming may ger it back in shape. It looks much better after today's grooming. Thanks Corey and Julie!

I Am Not Forgotten!

Have you ever felt forgotten? Left out? All alone? I know that I have! It’s a terrible feeling to have. Its bad when its friends and acquaintances, and its even worse when its family!
This is exactly what happened to young David in 1 Samuel 16. God had told Samuel that Saul was no longer fit to be king of Israel and He was going to choose a new king. Samuel was to go to the house of Jesse, and anoint one of his sons to be the new king. Jesse had 8 sons. When Samuel got there, Jesse presented his oldest son. He was strong and handsome, and Samuel thought that this was surely going to be the one that God had chosen to be the next king, but God said no. The same thing happened with the second son, and the third, and on through the seventh son. God said no to all of them. Samuel looked around, and there were no more sons in the room.
Samuel asked Jesse if he had anymore sons. Then Jesse remembered David, his youngest son who they had forgotten about. He was still in the fields, watching over the sheep. Samuel insisted that they call for him at once, and as soon as he saw David, he knew. God had chosen David to be the next king, and Samuel anointed the young boy right then and there. David’s family may have forgotten about him, but God never did.
Yofi is my green cheek conure. I call him my “handicapped bird” because he has a condition called splayed legs. He can’t stand normally, nor can he walk or climb like a normal parrot can. I have to modify his cage to make sure that things are easier and more comfortable for him. Yofi would never survive in the wild. But he is a very sweet and loving bird, and we adore him!
Yofi can’t perch on my fingers the way my other birds do. But, when I offer him my hand, he enthusiastically jumps into my palm. That is where he can easily stand and its where he loves to be!
In Isaiah 49:15-16, God tells us, “ I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;”
Just like little Yofi sits in my hands, we sit in God’s hands. He cannot forget us because He physically carries us in His hands at all times! And what a wonderful place to be! We are safe and secure. We are loved and protected. And we are never forgotten!

The Battle is God’s

Parents, have you ever been cutting your baby’s finger or toenails and cut them too short? I know that I have! I felt so bad for my child, because that hurts! And then, the next time that job needs to be done, your child doesn’t quite trust you as much, and that hurts us!
My children are now old enough to take care of this job for themselves. However, my birds have to have their wings and nails clipped regularly. For their safety, their wings need to stay cut, or they may fly into something that may hurt them. And for MY safety, their nails need to stay trimmed. If their nails get too long, they will cause painful scratches and cuts, which can lead to infections, as birds nails carry bacteria. So every couple of months, my daughter will grab a towel, wrap the bird up to avoid getting bit (the birds don’t like this process) and I will clip their wings and nails.
As I was clipping Pika, my Indian Ringneck, my Quaker Parrot, Lady, decided that she had to supervise. Lady and Pika are the very best of friends, and Lady had to make sure that we were not hurting her buddy! She kept jumping up on my arm, my hand, and even my scissors and clippers! She would not stay out of the way! It made it extremely difficult to do the job that I was doing, and I even cut more than I was supposed to on one of Pika’s tiny nails! It caused him to bleed, and I know it had to hurt! We had to pack it with the medical powder we keep on hand just for situations like this, but it still bled a lot!
As I was thinking about this, the Lord led me to 2 Chronicles 20. Jehoshaphat was king and he was facing a large battle against both the Moabites and the Ammonites. As you read the chapter, Jehoshaphat was concerned about this battle, as his army was outnumbered. He went before the Lord, and the Lord answered. Jehoshaphat was told (2 Chron 20:15) “‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’” The next morning, when Jehoshaphat’s army went to battle, they found that the Moabites and the Ammonites had fought themselves through the night and they were all dead! God had provided the victory for His people!
But here is the thing! Jehoshaphat and his men still had to dress for war and go to the battlefield. And then they got out of the way and let God do the work for them. So many times we give God our situations, and then we get in His way by doing our own things to try to fix them! We have to stop it. We have to dress up and be prepared, but then get out of God’s way so we don’t mess things up and pay the consequences ourselves, as we can make our situations worse! That is what happened with Lady and Pika! I had things under control, but Lady kept getting in my way, and in doing so, Pika got hurt.
God can fight our battles. He gives us the tools and wants us prepared, but then wants us to stay out of His way so that He can work things out for our good, and His glory. The battle is His! Get dressed! Go to battle! And stay out of the way! God’s got this!

Adopted
Ziggy and Zoey are my pair of cockatiels. They are about 8 years are and have been together since they were very young. They are tightly bonded and if they are separated, they will call out for each other until they are reunited. They are both very sweet and loving and it is so fun to hear Ziggy whistling at his mate.
This pair has raised many beautiful chicks, and they are amazing parents! They work together so well! I have watched them divide their eggs so that Ziggy will sit on half of them while Zoey sits on the other half! This pair is certainly a perfect picture of team work! But one thing that blows my mind about them, is their willingness to raise another pair’s chicks as their own! Not many birds will do this. But this pair has!
I had another pair of cockatiels at the time that was struggling to hatch their eggs. Since both pairs were laying at exactly the same time, I decided to experiment. I marked the second pair’s eggs, and put them under Ziggy and Zoey. Remarkably, Ziggy and Zoey pulled the eggs under them, just as if they were their own! They had already laid 5 themselves! They ended up raising 8 chicks that season! All 5 of their hatched, and 3 of their adopted chicks hatched as well! And all 8 survived without any issues.
Watching this pair raise another set of birds’ chicks, and not care, made me think of Christ. It says in Ephesians 1:4-6 that He chose to adopt us as well! “ For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love 5 He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, 6 to the praise of His glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved.
Can you imagine that God Himself CHOSE us to be with Him? He loved us so much that He wanted us? That before the earth was even created, He thought of us and had planned to adopt us as sons and daughters into His family? That means we belong to Him and He is the perfect Father!
Father God, I praise you for being MY Father! For loving me and adopting me! I know that I am not a perfect parent, and many times I fail my children, but You never fail me! I honor You today and I love You. Lord allow me to look like my Father, so that when people see me, they see You! I love You, Lord!

A Beautiful Life

If anyone knows anything about me, they know two things: I love animals, and I love coffee! The other day, I was walking through the aisles of the local big box store, and I saw this coffee cup. It has been a particularly stressful period in my life, and the message on this cup really hit home! No matter what I am going through right now, my life IS beautiful, because God is good! And His promises are true! This is something that I can rely on and I can stand on.
This morning, I felt led to 1 Samuel 30:6. For some background, King David had been on the battlefield, and while he was away, his enemy had come and taken captive all the women and children of the land, including David’s two wives and his children. In their grief, the people came against King David and wanted to kill him! In verse 6, we read, “ Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.”
David strengthened himself in the Lord. He didn’t ask others to do it for him. He didn’t go to others to make things right. He got on his own knees and found his strength in the only one who could provide it. God. And God didn’t fail him. God was with David and he recovered everything that his enemy had taken.
You don’t know the things that are going on in my life, and I don’t know what you are facing in yours. That’s ok. God knows. But what I do know is this: our own strength will fail. Our spouse’s strengths will fail, as will our children’s, our parent’s, our sibling’s, our friend’s, and even our pastor’s. But not God’s. And when we find our strength low, that is when we follow David’s example and strength ourselves in the Lord our God, because the same God that strengthen King David, is the same God that we serve today and will give us our strength! And we are all blessed with a beautiful life! Because it is a life from God and he makes it beautiful, even in the hard times.
