Dillard, Georgia, is nestled in the northeast corner of the state, just over a mile from the North Carolina border. Situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the town's lush landscape is filled with 148,000 acres of the Nantahala National Forest and is punctuated by three state parks. Leaf peepers might drive through the town making their way deep into the tree canopies of neighboring destinations, but there are several reasons to stop and stay a spell in Dillard. Did you know Clayton, GA is an Appalachian Trail Community City? It's the 51st such city along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) and the 6th in Georgia! The Clayton A.T. Community Committee has put up a kiosk at the corner of the Rock House Park on Main Street which will house Appalachian Trail information soon! Thanks Outdoor 76 for your work on all of this! Check out the trail head outside of Clayton on Hwy. 76 West. Take a short walk on it then you can say "I've been on the A.T.!". But "Leave No Trace"!

In case you didn’t know…

Many people associate "Appalachians" with the Appalachian Trail, which stretches 2,190+ miles from Springer Mountain in North GA to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

But as you'll see in the map below, the range itself extends even further south into Alabama, and even further north into Maritime Canada.

Overall the Appalachian Mountains encompass 737,000 square miles of land in 13 US States and Canada, and they're estimated to be 480 million years old!
