Don’t count out state trails when choosing the location of your next fall adventure!

Wisconsin has 43 land-based state trails that cover more than 1,700 miles. This statewide network of interconnected trails links many local communities and our state’s scenic natural landscapes.

Most of Wisconsin's 43 state trails are rail trails, or trails that have been converted from former railroad corridors into recreational trails.

For example, the 34-mile Wild Goose State Trail is a rail trail that travels through Dodge and Fond du Lac counties. This trail was Wisconsin’s first cooperatively managed state trail. Today, the Wild Goose welcomes a number of different users to enjoy a day on the trail.
