With over25 years of interior design experience in retail I am now embarking on a journey into self-entrepreneurism. With an emphasis of fabric, furniture, window treatments and art/ accessories, I love designing your space to suit your style and functional needs. I use professional workrooms and have multiple resources at great prices (due to low overhead). In addition to consulting on paint colo

rs and the aforementioned aspects of design, I am currently starting a line of pillows and handmade accessories on Etsy.com. Whatever your needs, please do not hesitate to contact me with design questions, and if you allow me to share them here on Facebook I hope they will become a resource from which others will draw inspiration. Plus, it's a great way to know what trends others are considering for their homes.

Big changes have come my way. I have relocated to Richmond, Virginia and have changed my company name from True Colors Interiors by Annie to the more specific "Annie Salter Interior Design". My phone number remains the same and I will be providing In-Home Consultation services beginning in a month or so, once my move is complete and my other day job settles down a little. The best way to reach me is to send me a message on FB, or just call me if we are already friends and family of course. In any event, I hope all is going well for you and I look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon. Cheers!

Customer Testimonial:

"I want to tell you how pleased I am with the paint choices- no reservations! The carpet worked out well too. Working with you was smart... I appreciate your help. The soft earth tones are harmonious and flow together from room to room. You were worth the (small) investment. Thanks again". - LB

Spring cleaning may be ahead for many of you (some sooner than others if you are looking to open windows). How to get started? There are many tips out there on social media, so which ones should you start with? In my view the best approach is to do those chores that make the most impact first. Instead of sorting through papers and taking hours to read old mail (that hasn't been missed thus far), get rid of the bulkiest items and reap the immediate rewards. Sort and remove for just 15 minutes a day- or set a goal of one bag per day. If you are neat enough not to have to spring clean to begin with, congratulations and enjoy the day. Cheers.

Tip for Working with a Designer: Don't be shy about asking how the consultation works: what it costs and what it covers. I've heard from several sources lately that people who haven't worked with designers before don't know what to expect.
Here are a few thoughts: Start by chatting with the potential designer over the phone or in person. Tell them what project(s) you are working on briefly and let them ask clarifying questions. When they know basically what you want, ask them how they charge. If you are not comfortable with their explanation then you may want to interview other designers. Like a haircut or a psychotherapist, you pay for the consultation whether you love the outcome, so doing your homework is the best first step in finding the right fit for you.

The Space Traveler Anthropologist Experiment: Imagine a space traveling anthropologist visits your home... what will he/she be able to insinuate about you and your life? What habits, likes and priorities are shown in your rooms? Do they really represent you and your family? If not, try to consider what is missing. How would you change your environment right now to make it more "you"? To make it enhance your life? This is a primary goal of design- to represent you. Show others your uniqueness by sharing your ideas of comfort and welcome. Differences can be unifying. Create spaces that mimic your life, purpose and pursuits and let us celebrate that together!

Hi Friends! Just wanted to let you know that I am trying to expand my visibility in social media via Pinterest. I have posted mostly under my name rather than trying to keep two accounts going. If you have an account, please check out my postings and share what you like. I hope to get the word out that I still love design and am inspired by all sorts of things.

I want to thanks all my customers- and particularly those who have been so gracious to let me show their projects. Due to privacy concerns I have not posted your names on Pinterest (since it is larger than my Facebook audience), but I DO appreciate you very much and hope you know the credit for our beautiful projects is shared. Thank you so much for your patronage!!!

Another custom throw and a happy customer. I used double napped flannel on the back for comfort and warmth, but fleece would work as well. It's amazing to me how happy color and pattern can make me, and conversely how the wrong colors can affect mood. To each his own.. that's why there's so much variety out there. If you have a question about using color, feel free to send it to me. Thanks for your continued support!

Custom pillows from my home to yours. Spread out over a sectional and chair, the multiple colors and patterns make sense because they are all in mid tones and have lots of texture. Thanks, Roxanne, for letting me share these- your pup is sure to get the most likes!

Cool tip: I used outdoor fabric which is highly water resistant to make pretty placemats. Because these fabrics are either polyester or acrylic, they only require a quick rinse and don't need to be ironed. The old "sunbrella" fabrics could be boring and very stiff, but now the patterns and colors have expanded so much it is hard to tell they are even outdoor. One caution: avoid ironing them. This projects takes no time at all and even novices can do it!

$10. thrift store find gets a makeover with a new fabric, wood stain and a few hours of time. I have to admit that removing the skirt (and all those staples) was not the easiest job, but the results were worth it. The bones of the chair are great- hardwood and good quality construction means it will last for years.

One of my recent Etsy sales- a set of three fun batik pillows which can be used either for the sofa or bedroom. The two blue ones have the other (batik) fabric on the back so they can be flipped for various looks. Hope my customer enjoys them as much as I do! For similar designs, see my shop on Etsy. Thanks for visiting!
