It’s comical how life throws you a curve ball and creates a passion for adventure with a conflicting day to day personality. I am very Type A. I enjoy making lists, organizing, planning - I’m not impulsive. I am very frugal. I will research something 78 different ways and read all the reviews I can find before “taking the plunge” in order to make an informed decision. Because of that, I have always found the best deals around.
Despite my regimented personality, I love a grand adventure. From spending the summers in Maine as a child, camping in the Poconos, Catskill Game Farm in upstate New York, experiencing pure maple syrup in Vermont, White Water Rafting in Tennessee, Cave Spelunking in North Carolina to later in my adult life exploring the Caribbean; discovering what each island has to offer.... You name it!
I used to be afraid to fly. I was one of those who white knuckled the entire trip. Until ironically, in 2003 I took a job in New York (organizing and facilitating multi-day, leadership conferences - imagine that) Not a big deal right? Well it is when you live in Florida and plan to commute. It was a phenomenal experience and I discovered I loved the rush of running through an airplane terminal in hopes of catching my next flight. The excitement of flying over a large city skyline at night and the view of fireworks I had the privilege of on a clear night one 4th of July flight home just can’t be compared. My fear was conquered quickly.
We took our first cruise back in September of 2006. While I do love the mountains, I’ve always been called to the ocean. When I boarded the ship, I was awestruck - completely smitten and our adventure had barely begun. The smells of salt air and sunblock, the sun bronzing my skin, the breeze on the upper deck, live Caribbean music all coming together to stimulate my senses. I remember the first morning at sea. Walking up to the Lido deck for breakfast, the smell of the sea, steel drums playing on the deck and nothing but beautiful, sapphire water as far as the eye could see in all directions. From that very moment, cruising became my favorite vacation choice. The beauty was astounding.
