Chef Jocelyn showed a friend’s son, Noah, 13 years old some pictures from our knitting cruise, of the Riggin, and of Swans Island lighthouse.

He combined them and drew this with the addition a few porpoises! We love see the Riggin through others eyes 🌊❤️

Down Rig is in full swing! As you can see we’ve already cleared the deck of boxes and sailing gear so we can eventually rest our spars on deck.

Last hurrah! 🌊 The final trip of the season sets sail tomorrow. We’re bittersweet about saying goodbye to the open water for now, but we’re making this one a memorable send-off. It’s been an incredible journey. Can’t believe how fast this season flew by! 🗺️ ✨

What a Throwback! These photos were sent to us by Ron Losch - here's what he had to say about them:

"These were taken in the summer of 1959 in Greenport, Long Island. She was dragging for lobster at the edge on the continental shelf. The last one is of my father holding a claw from Riggin’s catch.

We had a small boat and hung out in Greenport at the Jones’ Socony dock. That’s where all the fishboats docked.

My brother, 14 y/o, went out with them for a 4-5 day trip. I was too young but did go out on day trawlers."

Thank you Ron for sharing these! We love being the stewards of such an historic vessel 🌊 🦞

We often get asked "What does dining aboard look like?" 🍽️

Meal times on board are flexible and vary a little day-to-day depending on things like the sailing conditions, opportunities for shore excursions, and instruction on some specialty cruises. ✨🌊

8:00 am Breakfast is served usually at anchor buffet-style or occasionally plated
12:00 pm Lunch is served usually underway buffet style
4:00 pm Appetizers are served usually at anchor family style
6:00 pm Dinner is served at anchor either buffet style, or plated
7:00 pm Local decaf coffee, tea & hot chocolate is available along with a dessert

When Captain Justin comes into the galley.... 🤣 What a goofball! He just couldn't help himself. Now officially known as Captain Pineapple! 🍍

Pineapples are often associated with hospitality and good fortune so we think it's fitting 😎👍

One day, Jocelyn had a guest in the galley who said
“hey! I hate your mandolin. It’s super dull and you are going to hurt yourself.”
She said “it was the 12 dollarest one at Walmart, so…”
And he replied "...so I want to get you a new one.”
She said to him “lol if you do I will be forced to name it after you forever"

Eventually Jocelyn received this package and Brian the Mandoline joined the rest of the cookware aboard the Schooner J & E Riggin. 🔪🥒

A Family of Riggin Relics: Story Time from longtime guest John Hahn!

"Brief History: For Father’s day gift of 2021, Thomas (my son) and Deb (my wife) gave me a 4-day cruise on the Riggin. While greatly appreciative of such a gift, I also was concerned about the expense to the budgets of both parties. (I had never received anything so extravagant). Somehow, in my “twisted” sense of justification of such a gift, I made the comment that such a trip would be a lot more fun if it is was with someone I loved. Whereas Deb tends to experience vertigo when encountering random moments, she glances at Thomas fearfully with an “I can’t” expression. Thomas rolls his eyes with the anticipation of the additional expense impact to the personal budget. Long story made shorter – Thomas and I embark on a journey to Rockland, Maine, board the Riggin, and receive an exuberant welcome by the friendliest strangers we’ve ever met.

The next morning, it’s raining as we eat a hearty breakfast under the canopy. With stiff winds, we set sail towards Belfast. Drenched by the rain, Thomas leans over to me and suppressing a lot of emotion says “I don’t know about you, but this is the best money I’ve ever spent!”; and that was only 2 ½ hours into the cruise! It got better! By the end of the cruise, Thomas has decided that he’s got to convince his wife Caris to share the experience with him, provided “Papa” and “Grandma” can keep their young daughter while they’re away. Thomas convinces his mother that the “leaning” is not to severe, so we also book for a later date. COVID-19 hits and restrictions disrupts our plans. Allegiance to the Riggin continues (under new ownership). Our bookings continue. Thomas becomes a Riggin Relic in early September 2021. I become a Relic in late September 2021. Caris becomes a Relic in 2022 and daughter Ayla experiences her first sail on the Riggin. Deb became a Relic at end of season 2023. Ayla attained Riggin Relic status June of 2024 at eleven years of age."

Interested in how you become a Riggin Relic? All it takes is three trips with us and you too get to be part of this amazing community 💞
