🔥 Part 2: Wood Stove Installation! 🔥
Excited to welcome our new Fortress Crawford wood stove aboard! ⛵️ This beauty, made in Boston around 1907, is a size bigger than our old stove, and we can’t wait to put it to good use! We found it in Edgecomb, ME, where the previous owners lovingly refurbished it. 🛠️
✨ Some highlights:
- Larger cook surface and oven box
- Designed specifically for wood, making it more efficient than our previous stove
After 10-15 years of battling the salt air, our old gal Lucy served us well, but it was time for an upgrade! 🌊❤️ Still deciding on a name for our new stove—suggestions welcome!

Captain Justin is always up to something in the shop 🛠️
This week he started the process of making new rat-boards. Rat-Boards are lengths of wood tied between the shrouds to form a ladder. This ladder allows the crew to climb up to the mast head for easier access when rigging or working on projects aloft!
We will show more clips as these project develops 💪

Hey everyone, Chef Jocelyn here! 🌈🍪 Today, I took my first crack at making tricolor cookies, also known as rainbow cookies. This treat holds a special place in Justin’s childhood, so I just had to give it a try! The process was a bit trickier than I expected, but they turned out incredible!
Have you ever made these before?

Some behind the scenes of downrig!
Every line and block has to be labeled explicitly before it’s all packed up and taken to the shop for maintenance. It’s amazing to see all of the pieces that come together to make the magic happen! ✨⛵️🌊

When it’s time to raise the Main Sail, everyone pitches in 💪
This is the biggest sail we have and of course the heaviest but when we work together, its comes up quickly! 👊🌊 We Because we are a gaff rigged schooner, we haul the Main up using two halyards that raise each end of the sail - the Throat and the Peak.

Did you know that lobsters shed their shells in a process called molting? 🦞
During the warmer months from late spring to early fall, Maine lobsters will shed their old shell to make way for a larger, new one. 🌞 🌊
If lobstermen happen to catch them during this time, then their shells are particularly easy to open once cooked 👩🍳🦞✨

When it’s time to crank up our anchor…⚓️
Theres nothing better than a good sea shanty to keep us on beat! 🎶🌊 This trip we have shantyman Bennett Konesni aboard as we head to the Swans Island Music Festival.
Raised in Maine and at 13, he shipped out as a deckhand aboard local schooners. He spent five summers sailing Penobscot Bay and learning the work songs of the tall ships as he raised sails and hauled anchors. Today he is the founder/director of The Worksong Project whose mission is to encourage a world where people sing boldly while getting work done. 💪
