Our En Route Campers from Guadeloupe had the opportunity to meet Guadeloupean Howard professor and author Dr. Gladys Francis in Washington DC, and talked about their hopes and dreams. Dr. Francis who does a lot for the Caribbean youths, encouraged our students to expand academic opportunities beyond France. The interview between Dr. Francis and our students were definitely impactful. Thank you to Edgard Babel,

Yesterday marked the last day of Carnival Celebration !

The carnival in the French Caribbean is a vibrant celebration that takes place every year in the weeks leading up to Lent.
It is a time when locals and visitors alike come together to revel in the music, dance, and colorful costumes that define this centuries-old tradition.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the carnival in the French Caribbean is the influence of African and Creole culture. This is reflected in the music, which is dominated by the sounds of drums and other percussion instruments, as well as the costumes, which often feature intricate beading and embroidery.

In addition to the traditional parades and street parties, the carnival in the French Caribbean also includes a number of other events, such as beauty pageants, food fairs, and cultural exhibitions. It is truly a celebration of the rich and diverse heritage of the region, and an event that should not be missed by anyone visiting the French Caribbean.

Hope some of you enjoyed this 2024 Carnival season !

Today we start to celebrate Black History Month !

Black History Month is a time to acknowledge and celebrate the countless contributions that African Americans have made throughout history.
It is a time to reflect on the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs of black people who have fought for freedom, equality, and justice. It is an opportunity to honor the leaders, activists, artists, and innovators who have shaped our world and continue to inspire us today.

This month, we can take the time to learn about the experiences and accomplishments of black people in our communities and around the world. We can explore the rich history and cultural heritage of African Americans through books, films, music, and art. We can also recognize the ongoing challenges faced by black people and work towards creating a more just and equitable society.

Let us come together to celebrate Black History Month and honor the legacy of those who have paved the way for us all!

Travel to the Americas with us !

Today is the MLK Day, a significant holiday in the United States, celebrated on the third Monday of January each year.
It is all about honoring the amazing life and accomplishments of Dr. King. This heroic Baptist minister and social activist was a key player in the American civil rights movement from the 1950s until his tragic assassination in 1968. He’s famous for his use of nonviolent civil disobedience, inspired by his Christian beliefs, to drive forward the cause of civil rights.

Some people volunteer in their communities, participate in marches or rallies, or simply take time to learn more about his teachings.
Whatever you do, remember that Dr. King’s message was one of love, courage, and determination. He believed that change was possible, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. So let’s honor his memory by continuing to work towards a more just and equitable society, and by never giving up on the dream of a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Puerto Rico embraces its strong African heritage. We had the pleasure to learn about the influence of Africans through Bomba music. Bomba music is a percussion driven musical tradition similar to Gwoka in Guadeloupe and bèlè in Martinique.
