Important Announcement:

For those of you that wish to volunteer to help us repair and rebuild the old Erie Canal Village, we need you NOW!

Before we can begin ANY work on the property, we must have all of the artifacts own by the city out of the buildings and into the storage building on the east side of the property. The Rome Historical Society have been tasked to do this job, but they need volunteers!

The best help you can provide at this point is to call the RHS and donate your time to help save these priceless treasures. You can contact the Rome Historical Society by phone at (315) 336-5870, or by email at [email protected]

A California investor has inked a lease-to-buy agreement for Erie Canal Village, and intends to open this spring without charging admission.

Thank you, everyone for making Mr. Prince and Col. Shannon's visit a successful one. Instead of seeing the sites of the area, both men insisted that we return to the village and walk the property again.

Yesterday before the reception they used words like "could", "if" and "maybe". Today while walking the property they used the words "can" and "will" and "our".

Also, while driving up George street we stopped at every house with a for sale sign. They couldn't believe that such houses could be bought for so cheap. Both men made it very clear that they intend to spend a lot of time in Rome.

Again, thank you all for making this possible.

The reception for Mr. Prince and Col. Shannon (investors) will be at The Beeches lounge on Friday the 19th at 8pm. All welcome.

Anyone interested in being a part of the Erie Canal Village project should attend.

Attention New York friends: My investor, Ron Prince will be in Rome on the 19th to inspect the Erie Canal Village for purchase. After 5 years of Hell, our Victorian Fair will finally have a home.

We will have a reception that night, so all of you can meet Mr. Prince; time and place to be determined this week.

Dear Vic-fair Family,

After over a year with no real news, I have a big update for everyone.

Last week Mr. Prince sent me with a contractor to the Erie Canal Village to survey the damage. According to the contractor it will take at least $2 million to get the property to the point it was 5 years ago. This means saving the Crosby house before it collapses, restoring the Shull house, building a new Packet Boat, and repairing the rest of the buildings so that the Rome Codes Department will remove the yellow tags. Also included is the complete rewiring and re-plumbing of the entire property.

We should have the complete estimate by Monday, but so far just those repairs plus the purchase price puts it well over the project’s budget.

In order to make this work I’m looking for volunteers with time, talent and tools to help save the village. If I can cut the cost of restoration in half by using volunteers, we can save ECV and reopen it to the public.

If you’re interested in helping, please contact me at [email protected]

Thank You

-Ed
