This historic hotel is absolutely charming and hosted many famous figures over the decades. However, it's history is eerie to say the least.

Some interesting information about the area I came across on a local page. 🙂

Living in Po***ck Pines, Nature’s Wonderland!

—People from out of town believe we are all outdoor experts and go skiing every weekend. We do not correct them.
—We actually are experts at swerving to miss potholes. We get practice on every road.
—People from out of town also believe we are buried in snow 6 months of the year, yet on average, Po***ck Pines gets 246 days of sunshine per year.
—The 119 days of bad weather occur as soon as people from out of town arrive.
—Bears occasionally wander into our neighborhoods. When guests have stayed too long we casually mention this.
—The Pony Express really did ride through Po***ck Pines on the Pony Express Trail.
—The Sportsman’s Hall was a stop on the Pony Express route.
—Jenkinson Lake and Sly Park Lake are the same lake.
—Mormon Emigrant Trail and Mormon Immigrant Trail are the same road. I guess it depends on whether you’re coming or going.
—Most people can tell you the PG&E number to report power outages from memory.
—There are no stoplights!
—The waterfall at Jenkinson Lake is man-made and can be turned off.
—People are friendly and neighbors help each other out.
—Getting mail delivered several days in a row in winter is enough to bring tears of joy.
—There are hiking trails everywhere!
—Po***ck Pines has great tasting water, straight outta the tap.
—Everyone owns a chain saw and knows how to use it.
—Having a big stack of firewood is like having a nice lawn in suburbia and will bring admiration from your neighbors.
—The dogwoods blooming are a sure sign spring has arrived.
—The wild daisies blooming are a sure sign summer has arrived.
—Fall is for apple festivals.
—Winter is when our “6 months of being buried in snow” begins.

HEYDAY CAFE IN PLACERVILLE

Do you know the history of the building that is home to the Heyday Cafe? 325 Main Street was once Tracy’s Building, an assay office where gold miners would bring their gold nuggets to trade them in for coins more than a century ago. The building was built in the 1850’s and burnt down once, being rebuilt in 1857. While inside, check out the beautiful exposed brick. It is original to the structure and even contains horse hair that was used in the mortar mix back in the day.
