Another great day on the water with a group from Ohio. Plenty of redfish, whiting, trout, and black drum. We didn't keep count, but it was nonstop action.
Oh! And a flounder.

Redfish for dinner tonight, guys! Aaron and his father in law said they couldn't go home without dinner. We caught a bunch of trout, but too small, we tried sheepshead, but the tide was screaming. Last hour of the trip, we put several slot reds in the boat and kept the 2 biggest.

What an inspiring trip this was back in May. John and his wife Tricia had some bucket list items to cross off the list. John was diagnosed with stage 4 C and was told he didn't have long and to get their affairs in order. I would have never known that with the excitement and inspiration they showed on this trip. In conclusion, Tricia prayed with John and I, and I just can't tell you how inspired I felt. John passed away Thursday, October 31st, and I just wanted to post this in honor of him and his wife.

Redfish, also known as red drum, typically spawn in Florida between the ages of 3 and 5 years old:

Juvenile redfish: These fish are found in inshore waters until they reach about 30 inches long, which is usually around age 4.

Maturity: Male redfish usually mature at age 3, while females mature at age 4.

Spawning: Redfish spawn in the summer and fall at night in nearshore waters. They return to their natal estuary to spawn.

Spawning season: Spawning season in Florida is from about August through December.

Spawning process: Redfish produce a "drumming" sound during spawning by rubbing special muscles against their air bladder.

Eggs: Large females can produce up to two million eggs in a season.

Hatching: Eggs hatch within 24 to 36 hours.

Larvae: Larvae are carried into shallow estuarine nursery areas by tidal action and wind.

Redfish are a prized game fish in the Gulf of Mexico. They can grow up to 60 inches long and live to be 60 years old.

Had a great day with Matt and Roxanne yesterday. We got our limit of reds and several other throwbacks. Bent the rod on most of the trip and managed to get the inshore slam with the red trout and flounder. Yes, the flounder was released due to the closure through Novemeber.

Flounder in Florida is officially closed through November. Typically, this is when you catch bigger fish but not as abundant as they are in the spring.

The morning charter started on a high tide and produced some rod action catching jacks and lady fish. This young lady did a great job reeling them in. After I dropped them off, I went back out for a couple of hours. I got a few jumps out of a tarpon, caught mangrove snapper, 16" flounder, and caught 4 redfish with the biggest at 26".

I had a blast on the boat with Jerry Hardenbergh and his family this afternoon. We lost count of how many redfish we caught. All slot fish with 3 keepers that were 25 and 26.

The goal was to get this young man his first fish ever. How's a 26" red fish for a first fish ever. This is why I do this! Thank you so much for choosing Todds Rods.
By the way, he caught a lot more fish and outfished everyone in the boat. I think he's hooked on fishing now.
