Although they are faster, these little guys hunt very similar to Great Gray's. The jump, the dive, the hover, and even the perch hopping down tree lines. This was a fun end of the day experience watching this one hunt.

Oh hello!

This was the first LEO visit of the year. Rough walk out, and very tough to maneuver in the fall. But I'm always curious as to when the first ones show up so I deal with the rough conditions. The owls are usually skiddish early on, and it's not even worth attempting photos, just simply checking.

But this particular year, one sat and just watched me. So I was able to grab this image.

One of the coolest creatures with wings. Long Eared Owls rock!

Nice and Chunky

This Boreal Owl flew directly at our feet, caught a mouse, and devoured it within minutes. Unlike Saw Whets, these guys seem to hunt more like the big boys, the Great Grays. They have the same temperament, and don't seem to pay attention to humans at all when hunting. And they devour their prey very quickly.
