AIRCRAFT CHARTER TIP
So how do charter pros source aircraft charter options? All brokers and some aircraft operator sales people develop their own strategies. Usually they are a combination of:
1. Posting requests in National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) "Airmail" national web board. Functions as a type of exchange with brokers and operators share "Needs" and "Haves". Any credible sales person is a NBAA member.
2. 3rd party industry-specific subscription software that interfaces with most operators and displays aircraft options that may fit charter request. These platforms are popular for sourcing one-ways, empty legs and transients.
3. Directly contacting operators near departure and/or arrival airports.
4. Sourcing though established company and personal operator contacts.
An experienced professional will use all tools to varying degrees unique to each charter request. More experienced pros have it down to an art form. IMPORTANTLY, their role extends past a booking to coordinate and ensure not just logistical tasks such as catering, but also to anticipate and handle any controllable/uncontrollable factors affecting flight experience. AIRCRAFT CHARTER TIP: Round Trip versus One Ways? Depending on your departure and arrival airports, and length of stay, your wallet may be better served by booking two one ways rather than round trip. Most charter operators charge a 2-hour daily minimum when quoting, in addition to aircraft parking and overnight fees, and crew hotel and per diem expenses for non-flying days. If considering round trip, use your total estimated flight hours for all legs and divide by number of days for trip; if over 2.0 hour daily average, you'll just need to consider the extra aircraft and crew expenses for non-flying days. Usually, if staying only 1-2 nights at destination, round trip may provide best option. If staying more days you should consider two one ways, to avoid the additional aircraft and crew expenses for non-flying days. Balance this calculation with whether you are flying in areas where there are enough charter aircraft to provide competitive pricing for one ways, which usually means shorter re-positioning legs before/after your live legs. Increasingly important with the large increase in "Special Event" fees at airports located by larger special events like sports events, etc., is to minimize aircraft parking days ("RON"s---Remain Overnights). If your trip requires an aircraft to be available quickly at all times, then the additional cost of keeping the aircraft "with you" is accepted. Have a great flight!

AIRCRAFT CHARTER TIP: Turboprop or Jet? Rule of thumb is a turboprop may provide better value on flight legs up to about 1.5 hours flight time, after which jets are recommended. Turboprop hourly charter prices are lower than jet hourly prices, but the slower speed of a turboprop increases total flight time, and thusly, final charter cost, beyond price savings after about 1.5 hours flight time. Turboprops cruise about 300-350 mph and jets 450-550 mph. Jets cruise at higher altitudes, allowing you to fly above turbulence and bad weather, with slightly less cabin noise and vibration than turboprops. Turboprops are excellent options to save money on shorter flight legs and depending on model, may offer a roomier "midsize jet-type cabin" over a light jet. Have a great flight!
