A fun morning of ripping around with my friend before the lifts opened to the public last spring. I don’t get to do it that often but it’s a real treat when I have the opportunity. Crisp air and at that time of day, you can feel the warming of the sun minute by minute. And then shooting with Erik is always inspiring. I love the way he skis and try to take a little of it into my skiing.

When I first started working as a photographer, I always loved seeing my images out there, doing their job. I’ve been at this for quite a while but I still get a thrill when I see my work being featured. And when it’s a part of nice design, well that’s even better. This was shot one morning last spring with my friend . Her skiing is just so dynamic and beautiful that it’s hard to miss getting great images.

This is something I shot for last season with . Clouds kept going in and out but I had a small sliver of sunlight coming thru the trees on the ski run “Keno at . It’s nice when all the pieces of a shot just come together at the right time.

Opening weekend in November at how cool is that? I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for days like this one that I spent shooting with the king of the carve, . What this guy does on skis is absolutely mind blowing. And his enthusiasm for the sport is just infectious. Gets me so fired up for skiing. .ski.outdoor

Last week we had a couple of storms blow thru Utah and between a couple of them, I zipped up to Alta to see if I could catch some interesting images as the clouds started to lift. The drive up the canyon was beautiful as there were still a few aspen trees that refused to surrender their last leaves but the most dramatic show was on Mt. Superior, right across from Ski Resort . So I sat there for almost an hour just watching the clouds cover the peak and then break apart. Just love the change of season.

Just having a little fun with coffee. Was shooting food last week and when added milk to an iced coffee, it put on a flowy show for the camera.

This fall has been pretty spectacular in the Wasatch Mountains. Lots of sunny warm days to take in the vibrant colors but now the show is just about over. So now I’m looking forward to seeing everything covered in snow.

Autumn in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah tends to be a now you see it, now you don’t sort of a thing. The bare aspen trees were loaded with gold leaves just a week ago but a night or two of mountain wind strips em right off. But the white bark made a nice backdrop to shoot some trail running. I did manage to find another spot where the trees still had their color, just to mix it up a little.

So were you able to get to someplace away from the city lights and see the Northern Lights last night? Where I was they were barely visible with the naked eye but the camera was able to see what was really happening. This was my third time seeing the aurora borealis. The previous two times were years ago and the colors were incredibly vivid but this time there were high clouds that muted the show a little. But still, a truly spectacular display by Mother Nature.

Shot a little road cycling on the roads that meander thru the homes and villages of a week ago. Making the most of the last days of summer before all those green trees put on a show in the next few weeks. The day I shot these it was close to 100 in the Salt Lake Valley. But up at eight or nine thousand feet, the temps were in the mid 70s. Air is a little thinner up there but the temp is a lot more pleasant.

With temps lately being about the same as the surface of the sun, it’s been refreshing to head up into the mountains and shoot some mountain biking. These are from a fun twilight session at Solitude a couple of weeks ago. Great riders and late day light, can’t beat that!

So our wrapped up her Stanford experience and graduated last month. I think she had an amazing experience there and grew as a musician and person. As you can see, mom and dad are pretty proud. Now she’s headed for a new adventure in her musical career as she starts her masters studies at next month. We’ve had a great time visiting her at Stanford and I’m not sure who will miss the place more, Zoe or mom and dad. But historic Boston will bring new and exciting adventures.

This was something that I shot for Deer Valley that I’m kinda proud of. Got up on the mountain for an early shoot with before the mountain opened to the public. The light is always nice early, the snow is perfect and it’s so quiet and peaceful. The absolute best time of the day. I just got to a place where the background was clean and I gave Ted enough slope to get into a rhythm and let him do what he does best. The best way to start the day.

Last week I shot some of the magic that the culinary magicians create in the kitchen of Stein Eriksen Lodge. Absolute works of art for both the eyes and the tastebuds. Almost a shame to bite into it….. but I found a way!
