At a crossroads in Baja….either way ya can’t go wrong. Either route is always a good time.
Overland Expo in Redmond, Oregon today! 385 exhibitors!
Remote places in Baja California are so much better than any overpriced resort. Someone asked me the other day, “Where do you stay”? Well, it depends on the adventure, season & length of trip. Ahead of time, we scout out private property, preserves, national parks and ranchos for epic camping options. We build friendships with local biz owners & guides. We always find the best places to eat!
We have a couple spots open on our Baja Mountains to Beaches Overlanding adventure July 18-23. See link in bio for trip details. Round up your peeps -it’s summertime in Baja!!!
Kick start your summer!
We still have a couple vehicle spots OPEN for our Mountains to Beaches Trip July 18-25.
Camping in San Pedro Martir National Park for 3 nights to hike, explore and enjoy nature. It is soooo peaceful up there. You might just spot a California Condor in these mountains - they have a 9 ft wing span. Then we are off-roading along the Baja coast to a couple private properties. Tacos, Tequila and lots of awesome terrain! We have clients joining us from Canada on this one. Summer on the Pacific side is the best.

I’ll be presenting at Overland Expo West soon. Join us for 15th annual Overland Expo near Flagstaff May 17-19. Over 350 vendors & hundreds of awesome classes. Onsite camping or camp in dispersed areas nearby & use day pass tickets. Get tix ahead of time. Who’s going? See you there!
Recently did a few upgrades on two ikamper mini roof top tents. Added new LED light strips inside with every color you can imagine. Also did a custom job adding thin grey indoor/outdoor carpet to the sleeping platform. These tents did come with condensation mats like my older CVT box RTT had. This easy & inexpensive hack helps that situation & feels cozy & a tad bit insulated as well. Luv it.
Here another cool product I love & use while on overlanding trips. Most of our lighting gear, headlights & camera batteries these days are rechargeable - right? But I’ve got a couple items where these USB Rechargeable lithium batteries come in handy. Pale Blue Earth is the company & they gave a sale going on.
Bought 2 Overland Pro2 awning in 2023. Installed one on 2014 Toyota that we just drove to Panama & back.
Finally had time & help to install this awesome Overland Pros 280 awning on Baja Betty Toyota 4runner. Ready for spring adventures in Baja California!
I am missing Guatemala already. I’ll return to this beautiful country for sure.

We Interviewed 14 Women Who Wheel: Inspiration To Get You Overlanding & Off-Roading - A Hobby For Everyone!
3rd car wash during this Central America roadtrip. We been driving on dirt, gravel, roads made with big rocks, pavers, potholes, and deep mud holes. We’ve also been through several mandatory fumigation traps at borders. It’s time to wash your rig when every time you touch the rock sliders(aka road side toilet seat), or when door handles you get yourself dirty. El Salvador at car wash. These guys did an excellent job.
The Darien Gap-
In 2023, I met my hero Patricia Upton at an Overland Expo event. Her Jeep was on display & we learned all about her adventures. I encouraged her to write a book. She has so many fantastic stories. Check out this cool video. This Jeep & Loren & Patty Upton are in the Guinness book of World records.
Introducing Patty Upton, a fearless adventurer and accomplished overlander, showcasing her remarkable 1966 Jeep CJ-5 build. She and her late husband Loren ac...
Yaviza, Panama- Literally the end of the Pan-American highway. Start of the Darien Gap. We walked over the hanging bridge to the other side. I wanted to take a boat ride up river but we had limited time. There’s a new controversial bridge being built there too. Super nice people in the area. A few other tourists & helpful locals. Busy little port where products go across river by boat in either direction. We saw propane tanks being carted across the bridge. Kids playing in the river.
End of the road literally….this is the end of the Pan-American highway in Yaviza, Panama. It’s been a fun day and people were so nice & friendly in Yaviza. More pix soon….

Central America roadtrip
When I’m camping locally or overlanding internationally, I reply on my cube to keep us powered for off-grid living. It is so humid in Costa Rica so we gotta charge 2 little fans for use in the roof top tent at night. We charge cell phones, mini chargers, led lights & etc. when in camp. This photo was at Drake Bay, Osa peninsula Costa Rica. Looking forward to the next Overland Expo to see what new products Wagantech will be releasing!
Central America roadtrip — Panamá Canal was very interesting. Got to see 5 boats go thru in the morning. Then after 2pm they bring in huge ships in the opposite direction. I learned a lot from the IMAX documentary movie that was shown at the visitor center. Morgan Freeman was the narrator so you know it was good! Worth the trip out to the locks to see how it all works. So much history here…
Central America roadtrip update
I’m delayed in posting due to fully packed days of exploring & seeing cool stuff along our route plus lack of WiFi. No I don’t have Starlink…yet.
It took us 45 days to get to Panama with lots of fun along the way. The dreaded Paso Canos border between Costa Rica & Panama was a breeze. Why? We were prepared, did our homework and attended border crossing classes at Overland Expos. One hour of processing & fumigation & done. Easy.
Currently in a cool area called Anton’s Valley. Heading south Thursday. Will post more in a few days.
Hi Lori
I am going to call you and catch up on what's happening.
It's been a while since Baja Trek.
Join me for Happy Hour on Friday !
Hola Amigos This Happy Hour event is to talk about and plan our upcoming **Baja Adventure Road Trip** ( B.A.R.T ) We hope to have enough people for February 24, 2024 RSVP
Exploring near San Jorge, Nicaragua waiting for the high winds to die down so we can ferry to an island. Found a great place to camp for a couple days & it has everything we need.
We are overlanding and exploring Central America. More photos soon….
We had a very easy border crossing from Mexico into Guatemala at La Mesilla. However, getting there was interesting. We had to go through roadblocks in Chiapas on way to border. The local people control some of the roadways there. I did not take photos of course while focusing on driving. We do have video. Locals are pushing back against Guatemalan cartel that’s coming in & Mexico cartels that are all fighting.
Time wise immigration, fumigation & TIP was about 1.5 hour for us. Super friendly & helpful people at Mexican & Guatemala offices.
Unfortunately, Overlandingdreamers Jeep didn’t clear customs/aduana due to no vehicle title. So Jeep & other 4runner IronhorseOverland crossed back north into Mexico.
The drive from La Mesilla border to Chichicastengo was a blast. Through beautiful mountains, small villages & scenic vistas.
Chicas —

Do many choices in food, coffee, chocolate, bakery items & more here in San Cristobal, Chiapas, Mexico. Walking the streets for two days has been a blast. We discovered 2 local markets with just about anything you could think of to buy. If you get the chance, visit San Cristobal!
Camped on nice flat grassy area on private land. Beautiful spot. Horses, lime trees, & potato field nearby. This place hosts events & even has a paintball field. Heading south to Guatemala.
Today we spent the day walking around the Teotihuacan site. Three big pyramids, museum, underground rooms, excavation sites & tons to explore and photograph. Highly recommend if you are east of Mexico City. The hot air balloons in the morning would be a great way to experience this huge site.
Camped a couple nights next to Lake Chapala. Cooked our favorite buffalo stew-yum! Meeting lots of super nice people from Columbia, Mexico, Canada, & Germany so far on this adventure. My second time camping here & it has changed. Some good & some no so great & too expensive. The area & towns around here are cool & lots of gringos & Canadians live here. Monday we head east so we will be back on the road towards Guatemala border.

Hola amigos! We been traveling off grid in USA for 3 weeks. Overland Expo in Redmond was huge & had a blast up there exploring Oregon. Now gearing up for a Baja trip next week. We have a couple spots remaining if you are interested in joining us. Contact me asap. See link in bio. Mountains to Beach’s July 18-25 Tacos, Tequila, off-road exploring & epic camping. Might be a beautiful sunset or two & a few margs around the campfire. #getoutside #bajacamping #bajaoffroadtours #bajaadventures
It’s a great day when you get to meet 4 new baby horses! All born within a week of each other at Rancho La Pila in northern Baja. These babies are full of spunk, happy & curious. Meet these babies & go for an awesome trail ride with Marty Harriman.
More pix from Overland Expo Flagstaff. Gearing up to work & present at Overland Expo Redmond in June.
Overland Expo West in Flagstaff We worked 10 hours checking in exhibitors today. Check out these cool rigs. From Land Cruisers to Porsches… one never knows what type of overlanding rig we will see next. It’s a blast talking with the owners & employees of these great companies that are here on site. Why aren’t you here? #overlanding #overlandexpowest2024
Sneak preview of Overland Expo West Day 1 of Exhibitor check in. Today we checked in only 20% of 400+ exhibitors. Yup-it will be a zoo getting everyone in & setup Thursday. Expo runs May 17-19. It’s a blast to see all the different combinations of ideas for adventure travel. From ground tents to huge unimogs, it’s all here. Something for everyone. #overlandexpowest2024 #overlandexpo #adventuretravel
I first saw this classic looking 4x4 at an expo in 2023. Now they are everywhere! Here at Overland Expo you can test drive one. The Grenadier 4x4 is the brainchild of Jim Ratcliffe, who was a fan of the original Land Rover Defender. When it ceased production, Jim saw a gap in the market for an uncompromising off-road vehicle. “WE WANT TO BUILD THE WORLD’S PUREST 4X4 AND ARE AIMING IT AT EXPLORERS, FARMERS AND OFF-ROAD ENTHUSIASTS ACROSS THE GLOBE.” Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS Automotive. These cool off road rigs are built in Hambach, France. #Grenadier #overlandexpowest2024
Sea, sand, and serendipity while exploring northern Baja! When we’re not bouncing from one stunning spot to the next, we’re on the hunt for the ultimate eats. Recently we found fresh seafood tostadas and an amazing squash appetizer filled with shrimp & special sauce. We’re always on the lookout for something new and delicious. And let’s not forget the scenery near San Quintin from long sand dollar playas to dormant volcanos, the nature preserves in Baja are truly spectacular. Quiet & calm exploring during the week with an easy Tecate border crossing. #BajaVibes #sanquintin #getoutside #bajacamping #bajaoffroadtours #bajaadventures #bajacalifornia #toyota4runner
Adventure Camper Van expo is always a good time. Great opportunity to talk to vendors & explore the new builds by various companies. We checked it out Sunday.
What will my next overlanding rig be? Well, I’ve been contemplating an OEV pop up camper with flatbed tray on a Ram, Ford or GMC truck. Overland Explorer Vehicle (OEV) campers are made in Canada. The finishing touches on these awesome campers is one of the best made I have seen in the industry. This rig could be driven just about anywhere. To the deserts, mountains, Baja or even to South America. Mmmm ….unlimited possibilities.
Rigs & Brews event was huge! I’m usually out traveling or leading trips so it was great to finally attend this local event. I thought, yeah there will be a few off-roaders there I hope. Wrong! Probably over 100 off road rigs at this event today. Great vendors & I won a raffle prize. Fun day & met some cool peeps.🐥
Finally got good WiFi! Camping on fincas/farms has been fun during this drive to Panama & back. We camped at this kick ass place in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico called La Mesa RV park. It’s a little farm, it has a restaurant overlooking the lake, and farm animals & a few dogs. They put on big events here & offer lots of flat grass where overlanders & bigger RV & trailers can camp. The town was founded sometime in the 1320s. Pátzcuaro and the surrounding lake area have one of the best-known Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. I walked every plaza & outdoor Mercado there. Of all the places I visited in Mexico & Central America-this town offered the fresher & best local produce! I bought fresh broccoli for only 10 pesos! That’s 60 usd cents. Great little town to visit. #Pátzcuaro #overlandingmexico
Hierve el Agua - Spanish for “the water boils” is a set of natural travertine rock formations in San Lorenzo Albarradas near Oaxaca, Mexico. These formations are created by fresh water springs, whose water is over-saturated with calcium carbonate and other minerals. This forms white rock formations which look like waterfalls. Little secret - you can camp there! Best part is that early in the morning you can enjoy the area with no people around! The bus loads of tourists & cars start showing up about 7:30am. This was my 2nd time here & it was great with no people!
Oaxaca City, Mexico —— today was a total foodie day. We tried memelas, Tlayudas, and flan de Tejate, flan de chocolate oh and mezcal tamarindo. Last night the 7 different moles were the best ever. Ya gotta get yourself to Oaxaca for the food, shopping, art & culture. Super fun.
Lake Atitlan, Guatemala I love the overlanding lifestyle. I’m addicted to it actually. Meeting people from all over the world. Most of the local indigenous people are friendly and helpful. We are camping at a kick-ass place right on the lake. Luv to stay longer here but we gotta head north. If you are an overlander ir photographer you gotta get to Guatemala!
