If you’re searching for a scuba diving instructor who traded in economics textbooks for underwater adventures, Leila is your go-to! With 18 years of diving experience and an unwavering passion for ocean conservation that matches her love for nudibranchs, she’s swapped the 9-to-5 grind for teaching you how to breathe underwater like a pro. 🌊💙

Leila has taught in Mexico, Colombia, and the US, and she’s fluent in Dutch, English, and Spanish—so you’ll definitely hear her if you forget the safety protocols! 😄

Her PADI courses cover all the essentials, plus some exciting extras like wreck diving and fish identification. This is Kevin. Kevin is a professional diver, great friend, father, husband, veteran, and above all else a fighter! Kevin has been a pivotal influence in my dive career and now is in the fight of his life against multiple cancers. He will win this fight. Divers help divers. Let’s help Kevin on this difficult journey if you have the means. Anything helps ❤️

A little about Kevin:
I started scuba diving when I was 10 years old in Dutch Springs, just north of my hometown of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Scuba diving has always been my tranquil place, as every dive is a new, and exciting experience. Even throughout my 20 year military career, I never always found a time and place to dive.

Teaching was always a passion of mine and I thought as I was retiring… “Why not teach my passion?” I met a life long friend at the dive instructor school in Key Largo- Sam Fletcher or Fletch. We had some epic times getting ourselves ready for the final test, completing the course with each others’ help and support. I continued to serve in the USAF and teach Scuba diving in Tampa, Florida which is where I retired in Feb. 2022. Following our instructor course, Fletch went home to San Diego and started Odyssea by Fletcher. Unfortunately my scuba diving career was cut short when I was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

I refuse to believe terminal cancer is the end and started do what I know best to do is fight. I have been fighting since January 2023 with the love of my family and friends, especially my wife Katrina. Also always by my side is my service dog, a Labrador Retriever named, Isla.

Today was a great day my liver seems to be improving and I was able to get some good treatments. Rocking this great fight wear that Fletch sent me. The oceans never end neither does my fighting spirit. I cannot wait to go on another Odyssea with my wife and Fletch. Getting back in the water, especially in San Diego, would be incredible. Made a new shark 🦈 friend on our advanced night dive! This amazing creature is a Seven Gill Shark 🦈 As you can see they are extremely stealthy. As this one swam right into us before we realized it was there 😳! They accomplish this through counter shading colors on theirs bodies. Seven Gills are one of the most ancient shark species. Sevengill sharks, named for having seven gill slits on either side of their bodies, reach lengths of at least 10 feet with an average length of 5 feet. They weigh up to 235 lbs and are known to live as long as 49 years. Sevengills are thought to reach sexual maturity when they reach 1.5 to 2.2 m in length. They are curious and to to be respected (as all animals should be) but pose very little risk to divers. Want to meet one in real life!?
