J London Furniture

J London Furniture Artfully crafted from reclaimed wood Perhaps you have heard necessity is the mother of invention. We had more than a dining table. We had an idea.

J London was created when we had no money and needed a dining table. After searching through a pile of wood in a family member's backyard, we constructed the table, painted it white, and sanded it. We learned that sanding typically comes before painting, but it was our first time. The process of wood grain emerging from under white paint was beautiful. The weeks that followed involved trial and error, the discovery of new skills, and reclaimed wood furnishings throughout our home.

I’m having a blast making videos with my daughter. Here’s another glimpse of what we’ve been up to. This is my most popular bench - a rustic black frame with dark walnut top. Enjoy.

I really enjoy building multiple piece sets for people. A few years ago I built a console with doors for one of my friends from youth ministry days. They asked me to build some matching pieces this year - a vanity/desk, stool, and bookshelf. Excited to finish these pieces up just before my wife gives birth to identical twin boys. You read that last part correctly. Pretty soon I’ll have a couple more shop apprentices.

About three years ago, I took a risk and left the world of education to pursue a glamorous job in manufacturing 😀. As much as I enjoyed working with the amazing people at my school, I’ve been welcomed into an inspiring community of makers and creatives and I have absolutely no regrets. It's an exciting time, and I am happy to share the company I work for, House of Magnets, is changing its name. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this endeavor, and we are thrilled to continue this 25-year journey and take our next step. This adventure is just beginning, and I want to invite you to follow along. As a celebratory marker, I built a couple of co****le sets using two mediums I’ve grown to love in the last few years - wood and Aluminum composite (ACM).

I had a blast working on this sign for Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego. I’ve never worked with metal before and it was fun to challenge my creative energy and build something new.

I am in love with this outdoor space. Creating something out of nothing brings me joy, especially when that space will be used for sharing love, laughter, and a meal with family and friends.

It seems as I get older, every piece I build becomes more challenging and somehow more enjoyable. Slowing down to appreciate the process is a privilege that takes practice. This just might be the most beautiful piece of furniture I’ve ever built.

I’m really proud of this piece. I went slow, took my time, and tried something completely new with color. I normally like using darker planks. After sanding all the old stain and dirt off the shelves, I love the potent contrast of blonde against old grey stain. I can’t wait to use this stand up desk at work.

Sometimes it’s difficult to enjoy the process. I want to get to the finish line quickly, with low effort, and little lost - thinking that the end goal is what will ultimately bring joy. The anticipation is where the joy lives. The arduous steps, the practice, the staining, sanding, the splinters, re-sanding, re-staining - that’s where it is for me.

New pine bench and dining table - I’m enjoying this relaxing Saturday so much, I can’t decide if I want to stain and distress these. I’m sure my buddy who asked for these in April would wholeheartedly say, “get back to work.”
