🌟 Tallest Tale Turned Reality! 🏙️

On this day in 1931, President Hoover pressed a button from the White House to light up NYC’s iconic Empire State Building! (This was symbolic…he was in DC, so someone else flip the switch). Talk about remote control! 😂

But let’s rewind - this skyscraper showdown started as a friendly rivalry between Walter Chrysler & John Jakob Raskob, leading to a pencil-inspired masterpiece by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon Associates. 📏💼 Built faster than a New York minute, it rose 102 stories high, standing proud in the depths of the Great Depression. 💪✨ Flash forward to ‘72, it lost its crown to the World Trade Center, but hey, it’s still an MVP of the skyline! We’ll always have a soft spot for the Empire State Building’s timeless charm! 🌆

Both the Top of the Rock, and the Empire State Buildings are a must do when you’re visiting NYC, and shouldn’t be missed! I definitely want to go back at sunset 🌇!

This is the best quote for the little church that could….and did! Behold The Holy Church of Agia Dynamis (Sacred Power) in Athens; and yes this adorable little church ⛪️ from the 16th century is surrounded by a 20th Century high-rise. If you’ve been to Athens, you could have easily missed it, because it literally lies within the pillars of the Electra Metropolis Hotel 🏨 .

Following the greek war in the 1830’s, the city 🌃 around the church began to change, and a lot of buildings were being demolished so the streets could be widened. I couldn’t find anything written about the church fighting the progress back then, but it obviously took some kind of stand because it was still there in the 20th century.

Then in the 1950’s, the area again went thru improvements & redevelopment and the Greek 🇬🇷 government attempted to obtain the land from the church - it wanted the location for the new headquarters for the Ministry of Education and Religion. Which when you think about it is kinda of funny right?! Trying to demolish a historical and beautiful church in order to put in a building that will be the headquarters to the Ministry of Religion, lol! 😂

As luck 🍀 would have it, they lost and now we have this amazing little church ⛪️ that won against all odds, and is the talk of the town; so to speak.

It’s in the Syntagma area of town on Mitropoleos Street so you can include a visit when you’re seeing all the cool sights in the area.

You can start you day shopping in Ermou, and then grabbing a nibble for breakfast or lunch at one of the more well-known restaurants on Voulis Street. Then you can head towards Syntagam Square to watch the changing of the guards, and then take a relaxing stroll thru the National Gardens of Athens.

Next you can then head across the street to Hotel Grande Bretagne, one of Athen’s oldest hotels and one of its most luxurious. Staying there is dreamy, but if you can’t afford the 5 star prices, you should definitely take a stroll thru their lobby, pop into the Alexander’s Cigar Lounge and then relax in Il Giardino Segreto - the Secret Garden! They have an extensive wine list, some signature cocktails, and a wide range of snacks. Regardless it’s a very unique experience, and a great way to cool off after walking around Athens for few hours. Before you leave, don’t forget to venture up to their roof-top restaurant…it has amazing views of Acropolis. You could also start your day here as well, the breakfast is absolutely scrumptious!

After all that, head to Mitropoleos Street so you can visit this adorable little church. If you want to go inside, don’t forget to check their hours online; it’s beautiful, so it’s worth the effort! It is, without a doubt, one of the most unique sights you can come across in Athens.

While in Syntagma, make sure to take a few minutes to explore this small church that has become an iconic landmark of the city of Athens. If you take a private or small group walking 🚶🏻‍♀️ tour of Athens, you’ll be sure to hit all the key landmarks, learn about the hidden gems 💎 , and the best places to grab a bite…and it’s always your best bet to immersing yourself into the city.

60 Years ago today - Beatlemania erupts n NYC! 🛬🎸

On this day, February 9, 1964, Rock n Roll changed in America forever! 2 days earlier on February 7th, Just six days after their No. 1 hit, ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand,’ the ‘Fab Four’—Paul, Ringo, John, and George—were greeted by 3,000 ecstatic fans at the newly dedicated JFK.

But on this day 60 years ago, they rocked the Ed Sullivan Show, captivating 73 million viewers. The frenzy continued with their first U.S. concert on February 11th in D.C. and back-to-back shows at Carnegie Hall. The Beatles’ American invasion had begun. 🇺🇸🎶

If you love music and even if you’re don’t, everyone knows who the Beatles are, and where they’re from…Liverpool England. Liverpool is an amazing town, it’s England’s musical town. But the biggest draw of the all is the Beatles, their history, where they grew up, lived, played, met, that’s one of my favorite parts.

🎉 Did you know that the Hollywood sign turns 100 this year? 🎂 Here's a fascinating tidbit about the iconic Hollywood sign: originally erected in 1923 to promote a housing development called HollywoodLand, it boasted 4000 lights, 30-foot-wide letters, and stood almost 45 feet tall. Quite different from the Hollywood we know today!

💡 Fast forward to the 1960s when the sign fell into disrepair. In the '70s, calls to save it were heeded, and thanks to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the sign was partially restored in 1973, earning cultural landmark status. By 1974, it made cameo appearances in blockbuster movies, catapulting it into the Hollywood limelight.

🌟 Fully restored in November 1978, the sign made its mark in Superman and Steven Spielberg's 1941, solidifying its place in cinematic history. The rest, as they say, is history!

🏞️ Fun fact: The Hollywood sign sits in a neighborhood with narrow, winding roads and no public parking. If you're planning a visit, be mindful of the residents. Treat the area with the respect you'd want for your own neighborhood.
