What is the best piece of travel advice you have gotten?

Ours is to be flexible and patient - you cannot expect everything to be the same as the US. Try new things.

It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind." --Anthony Bourdain--

Anthony Bourdain taught me many lessons in traveling. If you have read his books, or watched his shows (Parts Unknown)--- you can learn so much from him.

Lessons Learned:

Hard lessons or personal failures are challenging times but you can learn a lot about yourself in those hard lessons in life. Traveling can have hard lessons as well, but it is what you learn from those mistakes that makes it all worth it. They can also provide fun stories to tell your friends and family (and laugh about later).

Iceland was a trip that was fun and exciting. We rented a vehicle which was interesting. We learned that we were not to drive on the roads starting with F. F meant mountain road and typically they are unpaved, and potentially had water crossings. We were on our way to the town of Vik to go to the Katla Ice Caves. We typed in the Katla Ice Caves into the GPS and started heading the way the GPS told us to go. It was unpaved. It was one lane and you had to pull over to let anyone pass. It was VERY rocky, hilly, and scary. There were hills that you could not see anything past what was in front of you, and felt like we were playing chicken to see if a car was coming. I was so scared of driving on this road that I pulled over as best I could and made my husband finish driving. There was no F on the road designation but we suspected it was. When we got to the Katla Caves there was no tour guide, and no one else around us, just the Glacier. We looked at our location to meet and we were supposed to meet in town at the outfitter location. We had to drive back out on the same road and go back into town. Luckily, we gave ourselves some extra time so we were not late, but barely on time.

Lesson Learned make sure you read your information carefully.

Let’s Talk about- Packing

I used to be a notorious over packer. This made for extra heavy luggage and the frustrations that came with it. The more seasoned I have become at traveling, the better packer I have become. My last few trips I have done Carry On Only (COO). If I forget something, I can always find it at my destination.
I recently started using packing cubes and this has helped immensely with space. I also started following a travel page and they have provided TONS of knowledge on all sorts of topics.

What group do you fall into?
• I pack my whole closet
• I barely pack anything
• I pack just the right amount.

Regarding packing for a trip, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, think about what you need and make a list. It will help you stay organized and avoid packing too much or forgetting something important. Utilize those shoes to place socks and garments in to help save space.
