Once again, the year has flown by! In 2024, Verdant World Travels clients traveled to 17 countries on four continents! The most popular destinations this year were Ireland, Alaska, Scotland and Italy. The farthest destinations were Japan and Patagonia. Each trip was custom created to be as unique as every client. Some clients celebrated milestone anniversaries, retirements, birthdays, and family reunions. Others checked off major bucket list destinations and some simply enjoyed summer family vacations. I’m so grateful to each of you for trusting your travel plans to me. It’s an honor and privilege to play a small role in your family’s memories.

As for me, it was another busy year of traveling and learning. Work trips included a week in the Netherlands at a River Cruise conference, ten days learning all about Australia in Cairns and Perth, a quick trip to D.C. for another conference, and early December was spent in Alaska with the team at Visit Anchorage. Darin and I did find time to see family in Texas and spent almost three weeks traveling to Southeast Asia - our 7th continent! We loved our time in Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore and look forward to more visits in the future.

Here’s to more adventures in 2025 - Remember to !

Wishing the happiest of travels to this Wilmington Island family heading off to Sicily today!

A wedding gave them the excuse they needed to head to Europe for the holidays. They will spend the first week enjoying the coastal towns of Catania & Taormina, a hike on Mt. Etna, and Christmas in Palermo. THEN they will fly north for a week in Ireland!

They will explore the pubs of Dublin, spend New Years in Galway, visit the Cliffs of Moher, Di**le Peninsula, and stay in a castle before heading home.

Last month, I had the opportunity to tour the Azamara Journey while she was docked in Charleston. Two of the things I love about Azamara are their small size (only 700 passengers) and their unique, port intensive itineraries. When sailing Azamara, it's more about the destinations than the ship. With that said though, the ships are beautiful and comfortable and the crew friendly and attentive.

Azamara sails all over the world and recently announced they are adding a limited number of Alaska voyages for 2026!

If you're looking for a boutique hotel experience coupled with more time in destinations, reach out to me for more info on what Azamara has to offer!

Last night we returned to Anchorage and checked in to The Hotel Captain Cook. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays, including a gingerbread village from the local culinary school.

We had an extra special dinner at Simon & Seafort's before calling it a night. We had hoped to see the Northern Lights but the weather just wasn’t cooperating.

In the morning we did some shopping at local stores. There were so many cute places, many selling items from local artists and makers. A few favorites included The Kobuk, Cabin Fever, Octopus Ink Clothing, Tiny Gallery, Sevigny Studio Alaskan Art, and Once in a Blue Moose.

We enjoyed a flight of sodas - raspberry, blueberry, spruce tip, and root beer at 49th State Brewing - Anchorage and a pizza dinner at local favorite, Moose's Tooth.

We ended the day with a way too brief tour of the Alaska Native Heritage Center. This organization highlights all of the native cultures of Alaska with interactive exhibits. Today, they took part in a child’s Make A Wish dream to visit Alaska.

I’m beginning my travels home with a red eye flight tonight (technically, Tuesday morning!)

Alaska is a stunning and welcoming place to visit any time of year. Thank you Visit Anchorage for hosting!

Last night we drove from Willow to Palmer for an extra special dinner at Feather & Flour. Their small, farm to table restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays and offered lovely drinks and incredibly tasty food.

From there, it was another hour plus drive into the mountains to arrive at Sheep Mountain Lodge. Shout out to Autumn for being a rock star driver! We each had a cozy cabin nestled in the snow with mountains all around. Picture perfect!

After a delicious breakfast at Sheep Mountain Lodge, we met up with our guides from Greatland Adventures for our trek to and on the Matanuska Glacier. What can I say? Ice and glaciers are just magical and of the approximately 10,000 pictures our group probably took, none will quite capture the beauty.

After lunch at Long Rifle Lodge, at a table overlooking the glacier, we began the drive back to Anchorage. We’re hoping for a glimpse of northern lights tonight. Fingers crossed!

What a day at Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska! We arrived at sunrise (10am) and just left at sunset (4pm).

Our morning was spent meeting the team of 80 sled dogs and then heading into the forest with our guide and dogs. Ryan did a great job handling the team but I, as a true Southerner, managed to get flung off the back of the sled! Luckily, I landed in soft snow and had the state of mind to let go of the sled instead of get pulled behind! 😂 Needless to say, I relinquished my standing post to my travel buddy, Vanessa, and sat at the front the rest of the ride.

After a yummy lunch of chili and cookies, our group learned how to handle snow machines (they don’t call them snowmobiles). Patti was a fantastic instructor and has been riding snow machines for fifty years! Knowing myself, I opted to take some photos and hang out by the fire with my book. Everyone that went out loved it but I had an equally enjoyable time reading and visiting with the dogs more.

It’s been a busy two days! During our trolley tour yesterday we visited the Lake Hood seaplane base - so cool to see all the little airplanes parked on the shore. Spent the afternoon at the Anchorage Museum and ended the day with a delicious dinner at ginger.

Today we drove South to Girdwood and stopped at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and Alyeska Resort. Our evening was spent soaking in the pools at the Alyeska Nordic Spa.
