Our guests love the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, Maine.

We're excited to announce the 2025 Common Ground Country Fair poster design, Belgian Draft Horses!

This year's artwork by Katherine Noble Churchill, features two draft horses, livestock important to sustainable farming methods. From moving heavy equipment to plowing fields for planting, draft horses offer farmers an alternative to fossil fuel powered machinery.

“Each year, I look forward to attending the Common Ground Fair, enjoying the animals, crafts, music, and delicious organic food. My favorite part has always been watching Chris Lombard’s demonstrations of human/horse communication and connection. Now and in the future, I hope to see people enjoying the continual process of learning to develop communication and athleticism in the horse for both riding and working on the farm.” says Noble Churchill.

To head out on what skaters call “wild ice” requires some skill, some specialized gear, and some caution.

🧊 Probably the biggest ice-bar bash every year takes place at the Samoset Resort, in Rockport, from a perch overlooking Penobscot Bay.

Tens of thousands of pounds of ice get turned into a bar, barstools, tables, and chairs — the seating gets covered in faux-fur blankets, for obvious reasons — as well as big, decorative polar bears and various other embellishments.

This year, the event runs January 17 to 19 and January 24 to 25 (220 Warrenton St., Rockport; 207-594-2511).

Every winter brings ice bars to Maine, although the lineup tends to ebb and flow. Here are a few you can find in 2025.
