One of our favorite times of year in Seaside Heights is during "locals' summer" after Labor Day. The ocean is warm, the boardwalk is open, no crowds, and the heat isn't unbearable. And when October's evening chill rolls in, we love to cozy up to this electric fireplace with a movie and a glass of wine.

Our kids loved the surprise tide pool that materialized right next to the amusement pier at the Seaside Heights Beach & Boardwalk a few months ago. This beautiful beach is just a 4-minute walk from the Pelican's Perch!

Almost all of the windows at The Pelican's Perch face East toward the ocean and amusement pier. The photos really don't do justice to the view. Given the pace of development in Seaside Heights, we don't think we'll get to keep this full view forever, but we intend to enjoy it while it lasts.

Our kids love these adorable reading lights in the bunk room. At the end of a long beach day, a little down time with a good book is the perfect way to wind down.

Have you ever put personal belongings into a chest of drawers at a beach house or hotel? We haven't. Whether it's the fear of leaving something behind, or just our aversion to the dusty darkness (and sometimes musky smell), we just never use drawers. That's why we skipped dressers and went with clean, open shelving instead, plus hangers in every closet and two luggage racks per bedroom. Also, a hamper in every bedroom to corral dirty clothes (and easily run loads of laundry in one of our two washers/dryers)! We think it's the little things that can make a week at the beach feel effortless and luxurious.

We thought long and hard about whether to use the open-concept first floor of Pelican's Perch as a dining room or for a casual hangout area with couches and chairs. Since there is already an eat-in kitchen island, and we love to eat outside in the summer anyway, we opted for couches. ....But we may have overcompensated with outdoor dining options, which include (1) an 8-person dining table on the covered porch right outside the front door; (2) a 6+ person dining table on the roof deck overlooking the ocean; (3) an 8-seat round picnic table in the back yard; and (4) a separate traditional 8-seat picnic table also in the back yard.

Nobody wants to work on vacation! But we know it happens. Having spent time at beach houses where we had to work from the floor, the bed, the kitchen table, or a makeshift standing desk on top of a dusty old dresser, it was important to us that every adult has a quiet place to get out a laptop and take an urgent work call if absolutely necessary. That's why we have SIX desks at Pelican's Perch (2 in the primary suite, 2 in the king bedroom, 1 in the 2-queen bedroom, and 1 in the downstairs living area)! They double as extra-roomy nightstands and/or vanities.

We also hate when you can't find a plug, which is why we provide desktop power stations with USB ports in all bedrooms.

We're the type of people that can't stop drinking and want to have it all the time, everywhere we go. We are so excited about brining these with us to the beach to refill over and over again!

Here's the with the cushions on the furniture. This was a bit of a controversial decision, since furniture without cushions won't need replacing quite so often (and doesn't require hauling cushions in and out). On the other hand, we're looking forward to spending hours on these things, and want them to be as comfy as possible. .

We went with for the . We're used to at home, and were shocked at how much easier propane is! Was it as good? I don't know - we were starving, and everything was gone in a blink. We'll let you know next time.

It's been a lot of long hours getting Pelican's Perch ready for the season over the past couple of months. Long hours spent working tantalizingly close to the and for a 6 and 7-year old. This really helped keep the peace! Their favorite? aka

Did it prevent them from begging to go to Lucky Leo's Amusements or Casino Pier & Breakwater Beach ? It did not. But it helped.

We are loving these cute reading lights in our 2-queen bedroom! When Nana and Papa come to visit, they need two beds in the same room. These convenient little tilt‐able lights let them read without bothering the other person. You can also charge your phone (or airpods, smart watch, etc.) using the built-in USB port and handy mini shelf!
