Welcome! Here in Seaside, we donβt guard our secrets. We love to share the beach, rivers, and mountains we call home.
Surely youβve noticed the view stretching from Tillamook Head to the Necanicum Estuary. Isnβt it something? For thousands of years this was the backdrop to daily life for countless generations of Clatsop Indians. Members of the Lewis and Clark party camped here in 1806, boiling seawater to make salt for the trek back home. Ben Holladay built the first resort in 1871, beating the beach craze by quite a few years. Of course, the beach wasnβt so sandy back then - you can thank the installation of the South Jetty in the early 1900s for that.
Nowadays Seaside is the ideal playground for kids and kids at heart. Weβve got arcades, bumper cars, ice cream, a shooting gallery, and 171 flavors of saltwater taffy and counting. Although weβve added swing sets and volleyball nets, the beach alone has drawn a steady stream of visitors for 150 years.
But what brings people back again and again is the community youβll find here. Weβve filled our downtown with great restaurants, cutting-edge bakeries, comfy bookstores, brimming antique shops, creative galleries, and historic properties.
Best of all, itβs all walkable. Or bike-able. Heck, some people even kayak around. You do you. Weβll be here to show you how, when, and where to do everything Seaside has to offer.
