We are ready

Starting November 1, all vehicles are required to carry tire chains when traveling in the park during the winter season (November 1 - May 1). This requirement applies to all vehicles (including four-wheel-drive), regardless of tire type or weather conditions. Practice putting on tire chains (or alternate traction devices like autosocks) and be prepared to use them if required.

#243 - Find the Trail of Two Forests at Mount St. Helens. This ¼ mile boardwalk trail leads you over a 2,000 year-old lava flow. Lava ran through the forest and around trees, which burst into flames. The lava solidified around the trunks and trunks rotted away, leaving tree wells - voids in which the impressions of the bark remain. Interpretive signs along the route tell the story of this ancient event. Enjoy today’s forest of fir, hemlock, and brilliant, green moss growing on the old lava. The boardwalk is accessible and kid friendly. (Photo via Scenic Washington)

#234 - Discover the second-largest estuary on the Pacific coast, at Willapa Bay. This shallow body of water, formed by the 28-mile Long Beach Peninsula, is known for growing some of the finest oysters in the world. As you drive through this area, you’ll see evidence of the harvest in the form of massive piles of oyster shells. Be sure to stop and grab some fresh oysters at the many seafood markets in the surrounding communities. Also along this route is the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge Complex, a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking to relax by bird watching, kayaking, hiking and more.
