If you have ever taken one of my tours or read my book then you know all about this distinguished man! He is Colonel Thomas Dickey Johnston (brother-in-law to Capt. John Coffee Hays, John Twohig and Alfred Shelby) who owned the Magnolia Hotel from 1859 until his death in 1890. He was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto, lawyer and banker. The town of Seguin loved and respected this man. He actually passed away from a heart attack while dining with friends in the Magnolia Hotel restaurant's dining room. His funeral was then held in the hotel's dining room because it was the largest place to accommodate all of his close friends and family members. The massive gathering of Texas Rangers and friends filled the street outside of the hotel. Now the Colonel is one of our most active spirits on the bottom floor of the hotel. When he comes forward we can smell his sweet to***co scent which he was known to often smoke. We can also hear the tapping of his exquisite 14 carat gold cane (which he used for life) as he moves about the room. His makes his presence known by his intense protective energy as if he is still watching over his beloved property. He must have been an amazing man in life.
