š Unmasking the Magic of Carnival! š
Buongiorno, Italian Days family! Today, we're celebrating Carnevale, a time of pure joy, vibrant colors, and a little bit of mischief! š In Italy, towns and cities erupt in a flurry of parades, with incredible allegoric floats poking fun at everything from politicians to pop culture. But did you know this tradition has ancient roots?
Thousands of years ago, the Romans threw wild parties for Dionysus (Bacchus), where masks and costumes leveled the playing field ā rich and poor were all equal under the disguise! For a few days, rules were tossed aside, and chaos reigned! š„³
Today, we might not be worshipping Dionysus, but the spirit of Carnival lives on! And for us at Italian Days, no Carnival is complete without a mountain of "castagnole"! These little fried delights are a Roman Carnival staple, sweet, fluffy, and utterly irresistible. š
So, grab a "castagnola," put on your best mask (even if it's just a silly filter!), and join the fun! What are your favorite Carnival memories or traditions? Let us know in the comments! š
