SOUTHWEST TO IMPLEMENT ASSIGNED SEATING
Today Southwest Airlines announced it will implement assigned seats and end their famous open-boarding policy. And that's not all.
Southwest announced it will also redesign its cabins to add extra-legroom seats, which will encompass approximately one-third of all seats.
The airline expects to open bookings for the assigned-seating system sometime in 2025. The details of these new products will be provided at a September investor day event. The cabin reconfigurations will require FAA approval.
Southwest stated "When a customer elects to stop flying wit Southwest and chooses a competitor, open seating is cited as the No. 1 reason for the change."
The Ultimate Vacation s take on this is: We know Southwest has a lot of fans among our clientele. Additionally, they have lived up to their pledge to add International Non Stop destination from KCI if/when the new airport was built. And we now offer Non Stop service to Cancun, Los Cabos and Jamaica from the new airport.
Warning: This announcement comes as a result of their underperformance financially, compared to their competitors, especially United and Delta. So with the joy of this announcement it is being accomplished for financial gains. So prepare to pay more.
