Sunset at the Palms, Negril Jamaica:
I spent a week at Sunset At The Palms, Negril, Jamaica and what a memorable experience it was. If you're looking for a quite get away from it all then this is the place for you. With only 85 rooms, all essentially private, this resort is the perfect place to relax. All rooms are bungalow style with a spacious main room, bathroom, and wrap around porch with day bed or hammock. The views (all garden) are spectacular! The gardeners here take such pride in their work and it certainly shows. Grounds are gorgeous and immaculate. There is only one restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner. It is buffet style, but changes its theme nightly. The food is incredible and if you can't find anything you like (which I can't see being a problem) then the Chef will work with you and make you something to suit your palet. There are also two specialty restaurants that require reservations and are only open certain nights, Lotus Leaf and Chefs Showcase. Both are a must try at least once. Both restaurants are a la carte style and are fantastic. Night life is a little on the quite side, but that's the point of this resort, peace and quite. There are several bars open and Paul the Piano Man plays several times a week, a great way to unwind. The pool is beautiful and from my experience usually had very few people in it. There is a swim up bar serving up some pretty great cocktails. The beach is across the street (a very short walk) which I thought might be a negative but was no bother at all. The beach is beautiful. White sand, clear water, and unobstructed views. I spent the majority of my day lounging on the beach. There is a bar and grill serving up tasty snacks and great drinks. Pull up a lounger under one of the little huts, raise your flag, and one of the very attentive wait staff will be right over to take your order. There are beach vendors, but a simple no thank you and they move on. As beautiful and peaceful as this resort is, what really makes this place stand out above all others is the kind and attentive staff. They will not let you lift a finger and take care of your every want and need. I also have to mention this great little place that's only a few steps down the beach... the Office of Nature Bloody Bay Jamaica (no affiliation with Sunset at the Palms). This outdoor bar and restaurant offers up amazing fresh rock lobster caught off the beach in the morning, prepared in a way that rivals any type of lobster I've ever had (and being a Mainer, that's saying something). The ride is a bit long from the airport (about 2.5 hours on winding narrow roads) but is worth it to get to this little slice of relaxing paradise.
