Couldn't get a good shot of the Aurora Borealis this time around but here are some shots of the Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS C/2023 A3 making its closest pass to Earth in 80,000 years from Lakeside Beach this past Sunday night! The final image appears to have also captured what we believe might be a shooting or exploding star 🌠

Fall is our favorite time of year here in Lake Tahoe. It's also when the bright red Kokanee Salmon swim up Taylor Creek (~20 mins drive from Tahoe Sanctuary) to spawn and the bears 🐻 come out to feast on them! This bear close encounter was captured at Taylor Creek last October.

If you like chasing waterfalls, this is the best time of year to come visit the Lake Tahoe area which boasts many scenic hiking trails with roaring waterfalls along the way! Glen Alpine Falls at Fallen Leaf Lake, doesn't even require much hiking at all as the waterfall is right alongside the road.

It's a very scenic 30 minutes drive from Tahoe Sanctuary to Fallen Leaf lake (although the last few miles along the lake are single lane and not well paved but offers breathtaking vistas of the lake). No hiking required to see the falls, or explore and climb up and down along the side of the falls. You can also drive to a trailhead just past the falls for an easy, flat hike.

Never get tired of this view from Skyline Trail at the top of Heavenly Mountain just off of the Sky Express chair lift! What a blessing 🙏 to have this right in our backyard, only 8 minutes walk to access the ski lifts! 🏂 ⛷️

Inspired by the recent bear 🐻 sightings on the slopes at Heavenly that have made national news, thought I'd share my own beary close encounter from a few weeks back. We were admiring the tail end of the Kokanee Salmon run at Taylor Creek and all of the sudden, what appeared to be an adolescent bear, comes running across the bridge, past all of the startled tourists, then dives into the creek on the other side and gorges himself on salmon!
