As good stewards of nature we can do our part to recreate in ways that support conservation efforts this manatee season ✌🏽
Here are 6 tips ⬇️
1. Do not paddle towards manatees to get closer instead take your paddle out of the water and watch 👀 when you become part of the scenery wildlife will check you out!
2. Give them space + most importantly always a path to leave
3. Don’t talk loudly- manatees have great hearing and speaking loudly can scare them 👂🏼
4. Don’t try to touch or call manatees to your vessel—this conditions or teaches them to return to humans so for their safety treat them like a bear 🐻
5. Don’t anchor to submerged aquatic vegetation(SAV) like sea grass on the bottom or along shore that manatees need to eat 🌱
6. if you spot a sick, injured, or orphaned manatee or a manatee that is being harassed call 1-888-404-FWCC (3922)

1. Give manatees the right of way + take your paddle out of the water💧
2. Practice passive observation—this means we look but don’t touch 🧜♀️
3. If you see manatees resting, not moving, don’t approach them. They need to conserve energy to stay warm on our coldest days 🥶
4. Stay in your kayak + only exit at designated take out points to help prevent erosion on banks/shores 🏝️
