I felt like it was really important to begin this new year focused on personal work. This morning I got up before dawn and met with the next subject for my “Wild Rising” series. Christy Slay, Chief Executive Officer at The Sustainability Consortium with over 15 years experience in corporate sustainability, stakeholder management, and conservation biology research is a powerhouse and one of the strongest advocates for sustainability that I have met. This morning we went bird watching. We saw a river of buzzards flying overhead, 130 by our count when they finally made roost. What an appropriate symbol to see on a day when I am photographing for “Wild Rising.” I always think of buzzards and natures cleaners. They get rid of all the old decay making way for new growth. We saw my favorite bird a Great Blue Heron, and several ducks I can’t recall the names of. During the winter when I don’t expect to see much vibrancy, I felt my eyes awaken to the beauty of nature in all of the seasons. The more I learn about Christy the more inspired I am by her. Thankful for the conversations and connection “Wild Rising” has brought into my life. Focusing my camera on a world full of love of nature and sustainability has helped me see so much light in humanity and I can’t wait to share Christy’s portrait and story. Way to go World Food Championships! This event is my absolute favorite to shoot. The amazing opportunity to capture such emotion and creativity is inspiring. Also very cool to be published in Forbes.

World Food Championships (WFC), the international cooking competition, is in the planning stages as a regularly scheduled reality competition series in 2025.
