Coonville Creek Wild Area - St. Francois County, Missouri

A forested, steep Ozark hill country of rocky slopes, springs, sinkholes, caves, and rock slide waterfalls once home to moonshiners and outlaws. This small creek, tributary of the area's namesake running into Mooner's Hollow, lies in the most isolated portion of St. Francois State Park on the Pike Run North Loop Trail.

Spanish Land Grant Trail - Depression Glass

This Depression Glass remnant was found on the Spanish Land Grant Trail (1.25.25) at Hawn State Park.

Lacking the iridescent, rainbow-like luster of Carnival Glass created by metallic salts sprayed on the surface while the glass is still very hot (circa. 1900), Depression Glass is a molded housewares glass produced in America from 1920 to 1950.

I have discovered similar antique glass shards in other parts of the Ozarks, but this is practically the only made-man item I have ever found at Hawn State Park in any section. I don't remember ever finding anything at Hawn, not even a rusty horseshoe. It was just lying there by the trail near a Nine-banded armadillo.
