The art hopefully will make you feel like your camping outside and in the bedroom ivy grows over the windows adding to the connect with nature theme. Why One Building in St. Louis Is Worth More Than Entire City Neighborhoods

I recently returned from a full month in Mexico and was impressed how "the have" and "the have nots" live together so peacefully. I visited Merida, in the Yucatan which is ranked as the 25th safest city in the world. Only one U.S city out ranks it and that is Boise, Idaho. We have problems here and the inequity is coming from our Alderman. Please take the time to read this. This property should have probably never received tax abatement. I along with others are truly developing neighborhoods that need help. Let's take a serious look at giving tax incentives to those of us who are focused on the up and coming neighborhoods. How can we possibly trust these leaders to give us a fair hearing when they are giving away our tax dollars to those who are extremely rich. https://www.citylab.com/equity/2018/04/one-st-louis-condo-tower-is-worth-more-than-whole-city-neighborhoods/556157/?utm_source=SFFB

The combined value of Park Plaza condos is worth more than one-third of the city's 79 neighborhoods—a mark of enduring disparities in St. Louis.

Ice cream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. The ice cream cone was invented here in Saint Louis in 1904 so we think it’s appropriate to offer this creamy treat to our guests as well. Our guests a few days ago took us up on our offer and pulled out the old RCW and made their own. Just wanna let you know that you’re invited to come make it the old fashioned way as well. Reservations are required. More booking information by following this link https://www.airbnb.com/users/17118236/listings?user_id=17118236&s=1

Would you or have you ever rented an Airbnb home? This company has grown to over 1 million listings worldwide but still considers itself a niche market. This year we will be working to create Airbnb for Everyone. Basically that means we would adhere to strict standards and be verified for offering the same type of quality that you receive at an upscale hotel. We think our listings in St. Louis and Sainte Genevieve, Missouri already do that. Just put up a new listing this weekend which is my own 🏠 in Sainte Genevieve. You can see them all by following this link. https://www.airbnb.com/users/17118236/listings Oh and if you have the time and want to do us a favor click on the ❤️ as it dramatically improves where we appear in the search listings.

Looks like development and investment continues to move down South Grand in St. Louis. First Habitat for Humanity announced plans to move into a vacant building once housing a supermarket. Now an investment group has announced plans to rehab the historic Grandview Arcade building. Chippewa Place was purchased last year and so far one apartment has been restored back to its 1940 glory days with a Route 66 theme for guests visiting St. Louis. The other three apartments are homes to long-term tenants.

Although plans are still in the works, Garcia said “The first floor will be live/work spaces. Likely 8 units on the first floor facing grand. The historic shops in the arcade will be turned into 8 or 9 single-room commercial office suites with shared restrooms and utilities.” The remainder of the 2nd floor and the entire 3rd floor will be occupied by about 12 market rate apartments.
“This building is an architectural gem, and an important anchor to the S Grand stretch south of Gravois” said 20th ward alderman Cara Spencer. “I’m excited to see Garcia acquire this site and bring it back to productive use.”
Garcia is planning to break ground in the 4th quarter this year with an anticipated completion in summer 2019.

How Cities Like St. Louis Are Helping Families Welcome Refugees

Are we making a difference? I hope so. Both St. Louis and Airbnb on the Today Show radar regarding welcoming immigrants. Personally I believe that immigration will save our city which was abandoned by many due to white flight to the suburbs. Not sure if you guys knew this but you can donate time at your listing through Airbnb to welcome an immigrant family. Not something that we can afford to do at this point but it's good to know that the technology is available through Airbnb for others to donate their spaces.

How Cities Like St. Louis Are Helping Families Welcome Refugees

St. Louis’s respected International Institute eases the way for refugees and immigrants to feel more at home in the city through a number of efforts, such as contacting local international grocery stores to ensure a supply of a newly arrived group’s preferred ingredients, providing education on citizenship and language, and training refugees for employment.

While many large cities have systems in place for taking in and housing displaced people, every extra bed makes a difference. You may not have known it, but Airbnb has jumped in to assist displaced peoples who come to American cities without a place to stay. Rather than being forced into homeless shelters, individuals and families can find open arms through Airbnb’s Open Homes program. The innovative project’s core objective is to enable refugees to live somewhere safe, comfortable, and judgment-free for a specific period of time — all at zero cost to them.

Open Homes Open your heart and home to someone in need.
Since 2012, the Airbnb host community has provided free short term housing to thousands of people in safe, welcoming places while they rebuild their lives after disasters, wars, conflict, or other factors. Join us by opening your home and help make a difference.

Stay with us and you can make your own homemade ice cream. Did you know that the ice cream cone was invented back here in St. Louis back in 1904 during the Worlds Fair?

Here's The History of the Ice Cream Cone
For over a century, Americans have been enjoying ice cream on a cone. Whether it's a waffle cone, a sugar cone or a wafer cone, what better way to enjoy a double scoop of your favorite flavor?

Making Its Appearance
The first ice cream cone was produced in 1896 by Italo Marchiony. Marchiony, who emigrated from Italy in the late 1800s, invented his ice cream cone in New York City. He was granted a patent in December 1903.

Although Marchiony is credited with the invention of the cone, a similar creation was independently introduced at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair by Ernest A. Hamwi, a Syrian concessionaire. Hamwi was selling a crisp, waffle-like pastry -- zalabis -- in a booth right next to an ice cream vendor. Because of ice cream's popularity, the vendor ran out of dishes. Hamwi saw an easy solution to the ice cream vendor's problem: he quickly rolled one of his wafer-like waffles in the shape of a cone, or cornucopia, and gave it to the ice cream vendor. The cone cooled in a few seconds, the vendor put some ice cream in it, the customers were happy and the cone was on its way to becoming the great American institution that it is today.

A Business is Born
St. Louis, a foundry town, quickly capitalized on the cone's success. Enterprising people invented special baking equipment for making the World's Fair cornucopia cones.

Stephen Sullivan of Sullivan, Missouri, was one of the first known independent operators in the ice cream cone business. In 1906, Sullivan served ice cream cones (or cornucopias, as they were still called) at the Modern Woodmen of America Frisco Log Rolling in Sullivan, Missouri.

At the same time, Hamwi was busy with the Cornucopia Waffle Company. In 1910, he founded the Missouri Cone Company, later known as the Western Cone Company.

As the modern ice cream cone developed, two distinct types of cones emerged. The rolled cone was a waffle, baked in a round shape and rolled (first by hand, later mechanically) as soon as it came off the griddle. In a few seconds, it hardened in the form of a crisp cone. The second type of cone was molded either by pouring batter into a shell, inserting a core on which the cone was baked, and then removing the core; or pouring the batter into a mold, baking it and then splitting the mold so the cone could be removed with little difficulty.

In the 1920s, the cone business expanded. Cone production in 1924 reached a record 245 million. Slight changes in automatic machinery have led to the ice cream cone we know today. Now, millions of rolled cones are turned out on machines that are capable of producing about 150,000 cones every 24 hours. IDFA.org

St. Louis Airbnbs brought in more than $9 million in 2017 - St. Louis Business Journal

Not sure we're making money. Many of us are raising money though and putting it back into our properties. This is certainly a win-win for St. Louis neighborhoods. We have plenty of homes in need of attention and repair. Also St. Louis is a difficult city to navigate. When tourist end up downtown they can get pretty frustrated because there are so few locals that live there. Airbnb guests wanna live like a local so when they discover neighborhoods like Tower Grove South and Dutchtown they are pleasantly surprised. As an Airbnb host we make sure they get into those great mom and pops, local restaurants, and attractions that we're sure they will love.

About 88,500 guests stayed in St. Louis-area Airbnbs, helping St. Louis hosts earn $9.14 million in supplemental income, Airbnb said.
