Our five areas of expertise are as follows:
1) Academic coaching and educational strategies:
We promote effective strategies for school success, develop master plans for homework completion and time management, evaluate a student's strengths and challenges for implementing comprehensive tools to empower the student towards independence, and provide classroom observations, interviews and our pre
sence at school meetings if desired.
2) Tutoring and SAT/ACT preparation:
Private, one-to-one tutoring in all academic subjects, fifth grade through high school is provided. Assistance is given for written comprehension, formal reports and term papers, including research, organizational guidelines and finished products. Preparation for taking the SAT/ACT and other application requirements for college entrance is available.
3) Social skills consultation:
Enhancing social skills for better success in school, the work place and the community involves successful goals to build self-confidence and self-esteem, and social coaching for effective friendship building and collaborative workplace relationships. This also entails generating positive strategies to enable a person to advocate regarding his/her challenges, disabilities, and requirements necessary for being a worthwhile contributor in school, the work force and the community.
4) Advocacy for IEP meetings and Due Process hearings:
Advocates conduct a full review of current and past IEPs (Individual Education Plan), as well as other educational documents pertinent to student placement. Face-to-face interviews occur with parents and the student regarding the student's overall educational experience. Recommendations are made for effective educational planning and the necessary steps for implementation. This may include the advocate's attendance at parent/teacher conferences and IEP meetings. Advocates will also represent the parent's or school's voice during conferences, IEP meetings, and Due Process hearings.
5) ADA guidelines for workplace and community settings:
Informative sessions evaluate procedures regarding IDEA, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Section 504 of the American Disabilities Act (ADA), for special education students, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum. Additional information garners recognition of the guidelines for service dogs and emotional support animals in accordance with the ADA, and accommodations for service animals in educational settings, public facilities, and employment arenas.
