We made a lot of ice over the last 48 hrs in the Apostle Islands
Chequamegon Bay Ice Cave Tours begin this Friday, January 24th! Please note, these are not the Meyers Beach Ice Caves, which have remained inaccessible since 2015. Instead, these stunning ice caves form within the intricate sandstone sea caves of Chequamegon Bay. While they may not be as large as the Meyers Beach Ice Caves, they offer a unique and breathtaking experience with more stable and predictable ice conditions, making them a must-see winter attraction.

The Mawikwe Bay Ice Caves near Meyers Beach are closed and are at least a month away from opening. Personally I don't think they will open this year.
Chequamegon Bay Ice Caves open tentatively this weekend. We will check the ice thickness tomorrow and Thursday to make sure there is at least 12" of ice.
Red Cliff Ice Caves look like they might open to foot traffic February 8th.
Mawikwe Bay Ice Caves near Meyers Beach are not on pace with 2015 and likely won't open to foot traffic this year.
This is more ice than we got all last year in the Apostle Islands. Most of the Apostle Islands are now locked in ice. A week ago, the only place we had ice was Chequamegon Bay and in between Red Cliff and Basswood island. This is a vast improvement!
