Patrick County Trail Hands is a project that brings art and trails together to engage visitors in a meaningful and unique experience. In addition to hiking, each person that experiences a trail hand will also have the opportunity to learn more about our county - the Heritage, Arts, Nature, Dreams and Stories of our community.

There is one permanent art installation of a TRAIL HAND in each locality of the county. Each trail hand is made of concrete and has been adorned by a local artist. You can find a Trail Hand at Mountain Top Park, Meadows Of Dan, VA, The Mayo River Rail Trail in the Town of Stuart Virginia, Reynolds Homestead in Critz, VA, I.C. Memorial Dehart Park in Woolwine, Virginia, and Dan River Park in Ararat, VA.

The Round Meadow Creek Trail Loop, located at mile post 179.2 of the Blue Ridge Parkway, is a .3 mile circular walking trail that takes about 20 minutes to complete.

The invitation to sit by the creek and wake up your senses will keep you there longer. Feel the chill in the air, listen to the sounds of the creek and the birds, see the beautiful tall pine trees and the underside of a bridge, and soak in the scent of the earth.

Cap your trip off with a taste of Patrick County by visiting Meadows of Dan, Virginia, located less than a mile a way. Come and warm up with great shopping, food, and conversation!

If you're looking for a beautiful drive and to beat cabin fever this winter, we invite you to check out the Rock Churches built by Reverend Robert Childress! Pictured are Mayberry Church and Slate Mountain Church in Patrick County.

The six rock churches are found throughout the tri-county area of Floyd, Patrick, and Carroll. These beautiful fieldstone churches were built and founded between 1919 and 1954 to raise the community out of poverty and crime.

Before starting your tour, be sure to stop at Poor Farmers Market in Meadows of Dan, Virginia to get a full tank of gas and pick up the book "The Man Who Moved A Mountain" by Richard C. Davids. It gives a deeper look into the life and legacy of Reverend Childress and an appreciation for the history and purpose of these church landmarks.

🎶 January 17 - Dangermuffin @ The Historic Star Theatre
While it may be futile to try to define Dangermuffin’s sound, it is possible to pinpoint the themes that inspire much of the band’s music, and perhaps no theme is as prominent and consistent as nature, including the ocean, the sun, and the mountains...all ancient and powerful and capable of immeasurable and profound healing. These ideas, running like threads through almost every Dangermuffin album, together form the basis of some of the band’s most deeply held principles and teachings: respect the earth, stay open to the universe, and strive for healing. Reynolds Homestead, in partnership with Clark Gas & Oil, will present “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen – A Musical Comedy. The plot revolves around Elizabeth Bennet, who loves books. People, however, are another story. Especially people like the pompous Mr. Darcy who threatens to ruin the happiness of her beloved sister Jane. In this imaginative, musical retelling of Austen’s classic novel, the indomitable Elizabeth Bennet attempts to find a happy ending amidst all of life’s follies and inconsistencies, especially her own.

What a beautiful snowy winter walk on the Mayo River Rail Trail!

This well loved walking trail is just off Commerce Street in the Town of Stuart, Virginia and serves recreation with a side of local history as it follows the path of the Danville and Western Railway ("Dick and Willie"). It has hosted several events such as the Apple Dumpling 5k, Kids Trout Fishing Day and the Bull Mountain Arts Plein Air Event. It is home to the Town Caboose and one of five Patrick County Trail Hands.

We invite you to come experience this 1.8 mile trail. The soothing sounds of the river and the sweet mountain views are a true delight, and the local art and the friendly faces add a layer of hospitality that really make you want to come and stay awhile!

One of our favorite things to do in the winter is to spend the day enjoying all the toasty shops and dining in Meadows of Dan, Virginia and visiting Mabry Mill in neighboring Floyd County to enjoy a walk around the grounds in the crisp winter air! Located within minutes of each other, it is a great day of shopping, recreation, and history!

Located at milepost 176, Mabry Mill is one of the most enchanting spots to behold on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Be sure to check road conditions and BRP closures before planning your trip.
