Some fantastic fishing over the last 5 days despite the strong winds, crazy lake currents, and some difficult conditions for maintaining trolling speed. Saturday’s west wind was just nasty and the lake current on Sunday morning was as strong as I have seen in many years. The current edge was very distinct along the edge of the Bank Reef creating an apprearance of two different bodies of water connecting each other.
We averaged 17 fish per trip over the last 5 outings. The west wind cooled off our water which really helped get the bigger fish back up to the reef.
It’s amazing how the lake conditions change by the hour. Often customers will ask “what will it be like out there today?”. Most days my answer is “you really don’t know until you get out there”. That’s all part of fishing Lake Michigan!

Our last fish of the day today was a monster King that weighed 30.2 pounds. It was reeled in by our customer from Minnesota.
I was time to pull lines and we had two lines left. Patrick reached to pull up the last downrigger rod and I said “wait Patrick, reel in this copper line first, maybe we’ll get a bite on the rigger yet.” So as he’s reeling up the copper line, the rigger goes off! Then another fish hits the line that Patrick was pulling up! We got the 6 pound steelhead and that giant chinook and headed back in.
That’s what make this sport so much fun—you never know what’s going to happen next…

Conditions on the lake were perfect this morning and we were able to make another nice haul on the salmon again today. The fishing doesn’t get any better than this! We still have some open morning dates in July so give us a call.

People often ask me if the fish bite in the afternoon, and yes, they do! This was our catch from our afternoon trip today. We had a mix of salmon and steelhead including several kings in the 18-20 pound range.

I don’t normally do throwback posts, but I just came across this really cool photo while looking for a deer hunting picture for work. This is from right around 1980. My dad and I fished early on a Sunday morning and hurried back home to get to church. I still had my church clothes on when mom took this shot afterward.
Hey Dad, 45 years later and our family is still catching ‘em. 👍🎣 You taught me well!❤️

It’s been a very good start to the Lake Michigan fishing season. We had overcast skies and a bit of rain today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bunch of nice rainbows. They are hard to keep on the line with all of their acrobatic jumping, but today we had a 100% catch rate. Our crew did a great job getting them up to the boat.

My son Jack and I always look forward to the early spring brown trout fishing. It was 27 degrees this morning when we launched the Lund. We went 8 for 11 on the lake while a chilly south wind slowly picked up to 20 mph. We had to dip the frozen net before scooping up the fish. We used an awful lot of hand warmers! A great day of fishing, although I prefer the summer fishing aboard the Pharm-A-Sea! 🧊 🎣

This is Jay holding up a big King from one of our afternoon trips from last year—Jay is 6 foot 5 inches tall. The season is fast approaching! We expect to see the bite start early again this year, so its time to start thinking about getting your date scheduled. We are looking forward to making a lot of great memories again this summer.

It started out a little lumpy on the lake this morning. Even worse, we had no bites for the first 90 minutes. About then my customer Brian said “we usually don’t have good luck on charters”. Oh no! Hopefully we could get it figured out, and soon! Well, the fishing ended up being pretty good the rest of the trip. Blake caught his first salmon on the lake and it was 22 pounds. Everyone caught fish and we found out that Mathew will make a good boat captain someday! Thanks guys for coming out today. 👍🐟🎣

We had a really nice afternoon with my cousin Rob and his crew. It’s always nice to see groups that I have fished with so many times over the years. This time around Rob’s son Robbie was with him, and my son Jack was helping out today too. Thanks guys for a great day!

We had a great trip this morning with Walt and Michele from Minnesota. They fished with us many times on the old boat going back over 20 years. It was great to reconnect after such a long time. Walt always wants to catch the big ones, and we did just that today. They hauled in their limit of 15 to 20 pound salmon. What a fun morning!

A thin strip of clear sky under the clouds and smoke from the Canadian wildfires made for an interesting sunrise today. Add to that a perfectly calm sea with not even a ripple all morning. The fishing continues to be very good, and we were able to get our two person limit despite a lot of boat traffic on such a perfect Saturday morning.
