Over this years fishing I have had some really good junior anglers. Ones that loved being out on the water. So good to see them catching fish and being in our outdoors. It’s not too late to take a kid fishing before the open water season ends. Give it a try! . . . . . .
Over the past couple of weeks it’s been some nice smallmouth bass, some walleyes, and a few perch . The weather is leaning towards fall, and is always a great time to hit the water. With water temps starting to cool down our fish here in Door County realize it’s time to feed up for winter. So the bite gets better, less boats on the water, and some great scenery makes Fall perfect time to try some fishing. Be sure to give it a try. . . . . . .

Well, this post is a little harder, August 17th marks two years since Cheryl passed away. Our whole family, along with many friends miss her smile, and joy she passed on to everyone she met. She had a love for ice cream, so on her day we will all be having some ice cream to remember the good times she provided us with. Please do the same for Cheryl. Thank you
Time to play a little catch up on what’s been an interesting past a few weeks. Starting off with the annual trip to the Knoxville Nationals Sprint Car race with my racing buddies and son Matt. Great time, 4days of racing, with Kyle Larsen winning the Championship Race leading all 50 laps., then back to my favorite fishing grounds, right here in Sturgeon Bay, catching some great walleyes, big perch and some smallmouth bass. Helped this little girl catch a perch and a bass. Then 2,of the best, a salmon catching day out on the big Lake with Matt and Captain Nick for some salmon action followed by a day on the water with Packer great and NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer and his son Matt and Jim Olson. How does a guy get this lucky.
Got the guy out on the water a few days ago. And, He literally put on a clinic on how to put perch in the boat. He loves to fish and he’s really good at it! Add in a few smallmouth and a sheephead or 2 and it was a fun trip. Grandpa and Grandma had fun too. . . . . . .
To say the perch fishing in Sturgeon Bay is great is definitely an understatement! To have a late day catch like this in less than 3 hours is outstanding. Add in a couple of Smallmouth added to the fun. Great day on the water in Sturgeon Bay. . . . .
Another day of checking out the walleye bite on the Bay left us a bit disappointed. July is normally a good month for walleyes but not so far this month. Lots of hours and lots of miles for a small amount. Fortunately our perch have really came on strong this year, numbers and size both good in many places. Hope we can soon say the same about the walleyes. . . .

Last week had its ups and downs for sure. Fished perch and they are biting all around Sturgeon Bay. On a sad note I said final good bye to Lee Bournoville, a coffee buddy at the Fire Station, a good firefighter in his day and an all around good guy. Took a day off and along with a bunch of immediate family took in an afternoon Brewers game in honor of Cheryl’s birthday. We all know she was a big Brewers fan! Great tailgating, and a great game. Even got interviewed from a Milwaukee tv station as I was cooking up the brats. 4 granddaughters were along and liked being with Grandpa. We should do this more often. Especially when the Brewers win. . . . . .

Kids Fishing Day , the 39th annual, provided 51 young anglers a chance to get outdoors at Little Lake in Sturgeon Bay. Despite a little rain and lots of wind that didn’t discourage their enthusiasm to catch some fish! All of them were treated to hot dogs, chips, and soda, all received a fishing pole or tackle box and the big fish winners a trophy. The winners were Niko Boland -Bullhead, Ryker Schumacher- Bluegill, Madden Cihlar- Bass, Briggs Tassoul, Perch, and Zita Boland was the Angler of the year. Great time was had by all. . . . . . .

Spent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday fishing with some special needs adults from The Adults Disability Program from Algoma. We fished in Jeff and Joyce Norland’s pond and caught loads of Bluegills. Most of them caught over 30 of them. After fishing the Norlands treated the anglers and guides to hot dogs. Great day for a great cause. Thanks to Jeff and Joyce for hosting this event. . . . . . .
One week from today it’s Kids Fishing Day at Sunset Park. For the 39th year in a row on Father’s Day it’s time to get the kids to get off the phone and get outdoors! So gather up the kids, grandkids, neighbors or friends and come on down to Sunset Parks Little Lake and catch some fish. Fishing is free, hot dogs are too from Econofoods, and always special Baumeister sodas from Triangle Distributing. Trophies awarded for biggest fish and prizes for all the Kids. This guy continues to both impress and make his Grandad proud of him. Following up an Angler of the Year award last week, Haynes Nault and his teammate Denton Dearman won the Bass Tactix National Tournament in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Add to that, caught the biggest Bass and to top that off it was his Birthday 🎂!. Can’t get a much better birthday than that. No doubt Dad Matt and Mom Denise were very proud of him too! Congratulations Haynes. . . . .
Great day catching Door County Smallmouth out of Sister Bay with some of my favorite customers. Keith along with Son and Daughter in law braved the rough water to catch only a few but definitely quality SMB. . . . .
Grandson Haynes was awarded Bass Tactix Youth Angler of the year for Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, This kid works real hard on his fishing presentations and puts the time on the water needed to become a championship angler. Very proud of him. Expect to see him fishing the Bassmasters and Major League Fishing circuits someday. . .
Super proud of this guy! Grandson Haynes Nault and his fishing partner finished 2nd in the Mississippi youth fishing tournament. He’s become a very good angler and works very hard along with his Dad, Matt to be very competitive in the tournaments he’s fished. So he’s headed to the Championship level. Great job Haynes
Spent the weekend at the Green Bay Boat Show doing seminars about fishing Door County. I talked Bass, Walleye, and Perch along with how great fishing the “Door” is. Had a great time helping those who attended with tips to catch more fish while they are in Door County. 6 seminars in 3 days kept me busy for sure! Also spent time with the folks at Mr Outboard Watersports Marine checking out the Lund Boats. Great show. # lundboats. . . . . .

Having some really good days on the ice with some excellent catches of Door County perch. And, a big congrats to Charlie on his catch of a monster perch over 16 inches weighing 2.37 pounds! Great catch Charlie! A note on ice conditions, our forecast is for some more unseasonably warm weather so let’s all be safe out there! . . . . . .
It is looking very much like we will finally start to develop some ice with the cold weather this week. Let’s make this year a safe one and wait until the ice gets thick enough to provide safe travel. It’s going to take awhile but we’ve waited this long so let’s everyone give it enough time so we can all be safe. Check conditions before going out and have safety gear with you. . . .
Very interesting fishing last week with 2 days catching perch in Sturgeon Bay and then making the long ride to Gulfport Mississippi to catch some largemouth bass. The perch fishing was excellent as you can see on my LOWRANCE Carbon. Pleanty of action for sure. Fishing down South was fun fishing a creek arm off the Pearl river. Got some nice ones but better yet got some boat time with Matt and my two grandsons. . . . . .
The perch were pretty good yesterday! They will be making a great fish fry on Friday. Will be going out again today for some more hoping they bite again. . . . . .
Completed my last seminar for 2023 today at NWTC’s Learning in Retirement. Always one of my favorite ones because of the folks who come to learn how to fish Door County. I covered walleye trolling on the Bay, smallmouth bass fishing, and perch fishing. I also did presentations on coded wire tagging on salmon and todays electronics. Great time with some real nice people. I’ll be back there in March with a presentation on spring and summer fishing. . . . .
Still catching some very good Smallies. Numbers are down but catching some of this size somewhat makes up for it. . . .

Crazy amount of windy days this week. My last check the wind speed was right over 55 mph. So much for fishing in this kind of conditions. Better for the weekend I hope
