Hey everyone! I'm Amy, and I've been passionate about the beauty industry since 2006!

I started my journey specializing in hair color for 14 years, but then I needed a change and dove into lashing! In 2021, I launched my business, Lashes By Amy, while juggling remote learning with my boys. Fast forward a few months, I moved out of my home, built an amazing team, and rebranded to Pure Beauty Co. 💖

👩🏼‍⚕️ Family Health Center 👩🏼‍⚕️

Today I am excited to feature Family Health Center! March marks their 20th year in business and they have so many exciting things planned for the month to celebrate.

Owner Susan Wallner, along with her mother Lorena Butts and brother David Butts, purchased Long’s Health Center from the previous owners in 2005 and changed the name to Family Health Center. They were originally located in downtown Sycamore, where Empower Wellness is currently. After 3 years in that location, they grew their customer base so much that they needed more space. They moved the shop to the spot they’re at now on DeKalb Ave. The shop is bright, inviting and Susan, who runs the day-to-day operations along with her staff, knows every customer by name when they walk in the door! Susan is a CNHP (Certified Natural Health Professional) and is continually learning more alternative health options for her customers. She is not corporate, so she can offer products that she has invested time and energy researching to offer only the best supplements!

Susan said that she has always had an interest in health and fitness, so when the original business came up for sale, she felt called to purchase it. She knew that being an entrepreneur was always in her blood, she thought she might own a coffee shop, but here she is 20 years later as a successful business owner of health services!

Did you know that the Family Health Center is more than just vitamins and supplements? They also offer Ionic Foot Detox, infrared saunas, ear candling and hyperbaric oxygen chamber services…. In house! They also have a specialist who comes in from out of state to do other specialty services that you can’t get anywhere else around here!

All the products that are offered at the Family Health Center are clean, certified organic, 3rd party tested and the absolute best quality they can offer. Susan says that “Small changes can make a big change” and that you can start slowly on your health journey. She and her staff are here to help!

🫧 KEEP Clean Laundry 🫧
This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Doug Olson, the owner of KEEP Clean Laundry here in Sycamore. Doug said that he chose to open KEEP in Sycamore because it is a great town with great people! He opened up KEEP Clean in March of 2020, right before the “work from home and only wear shirts for zoom calls” became the norm. Perfect time for a new laundromat! The upside to this was that his equipment runs OZONE infused water to sanitize clothes equal to hot water and bleach. Not only do the machines clean clothes like that, but they also sanitize the machines themselves with each wash and its environmentally friendly!

You’ve probably seen the logo around, but do you know what they offer? Well, KEEP Clean Laundry is a self-service laundromat with large machines, latest technology and environmentally friendly with OZONE Power Wash. The machines all run on loyalty cards which allows users to earn rewards and promotions without having to bring coins. The kiosks accept Cash, Credit and Debit cards to acquire a loyalty card and recharge your card. There is also an app for your smartphone in case you don’t want to have to carry the loyalty card with you.

Doug has a very successful career as an entrepreneur and he said “It was great to dream about creating KEEP and seeing it come to life, but the best part is the Team we have working with us to bring the exceptional customer experience. We are blessed with a wonderful KEEP Team.” Some additional advice he wants to share with the people of Sycamore:

🌸 Trove Salon The Space 🌸

Hello! I am Madeline Morgan with Trove Salon The Space which opened privately at 120 South Maple in Sycamore in October of 2021. At Trove Salon we offer a wide range of services and are known for our stylists having access to the highest quality education in color, hair cutting, and extension installs. Our signature style is lived in colors and extensions to enhance your overall look!

I started this business after working in the hair industry and wanting to create a new type of salon environment. A place where artists could experience freedom behind the chair and the opportunity to thrive as an individual, while also providing an environment of laid-back luxury to every client who comes to visit us.

I created Trove for our clients to know how grateful we are to have them in, knowing it’s a judgement-free zone, a place where every client can come in feeling like they’re just going to hang out with a group of their besties but leaving with beautiful hair at the end of it. Design has also been a huge passion of mine so when designing the space for Trove, I wanted to bring a sense of paradise to Sycamore, a salon that felt different from the rest the moment you walk into the doors.

🐔 The Dirty Bird 815 🐔

My name is Abby, I'm the other admin/founder of this page and a small business owner here in Sycamore! My husband, Josh, and I own The Dirty Bird. Josh is the face everyone knows, but I operate things on the backend, and am the voice behind our social media pages. I love Sycamore and am excited to spread my Eat, Shop, Explore series to my home. My family and I live here, work here, support our friends here, our kids go to school here and we love our life here in Sycamore.

For those who don't know much about us, our story starts back in the beginning of 2020. The pandemic just hit, right as we decided to build a food truck. During the lockdown, our family spent our time together turning an old racecar trailer into our first food truck. We FINALLY opened our windows in June of 2020. By the end of summer, the demand for our chicken was so great that we expanded into our first brick-and-mortar store in October 2020. A small carryout spot on the outskirts of downtown Sycamore.

We like to move quickly! We added another child into our crazy life in 2021, had two food trucks operating in over 200 events in the summer of 2022 and THEN we landed our dream location... In November of 2022, we opened the doors to our current location in downtown Sycamore. The entire building screamed Dirty Bird and we were beyond excited to make 124 S. Maple St, our permanent home.

We love our town of Sycamore and all the support we have received from the very beginning. Without you, we wouldn't be where we are today. We hope to continue to bring you the freshest, most delicious, made from scratch food for many more years to come! Eat Dirty, Eat Delicious, Eat Dirty Bird 🐔

🌟 Painted Lady Collection 🌟

I am thrilled to share my story and be highlighted as the first featured business on this amazing page! For those who don’t know me, I’m Kari Harris, the proud owner of Painted Lady Collection in downtown Sycamore.

My story began 9 years ago with the birth of my third daughter. Wanting to stay home while contributing to our household, I refinished a dining room set and hutch, posted it on Marketplace, and sold it within 15 minutes! I couldn't believe it, but I knew I was onto something special.

After months of buying, painting, and selling furniture online, I created Painted Lady Furniture. We eventually moved from Geneva to Burlington for more space, and I started attending Urban Farmgirls Market. 5 years of markets and booths at The Rustic Fox helped me grow in confidence and take the leap to open a brick-and-mortar store!

On August 18, 2023, I opened the doors to Painted Lady Collection, and it has been the best decision of my life! I’ve met so many incredible people and fellow small business owners along the way. I am beyond grateful for the support I’ve received over these 9 years and can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next! 💖✨
