I have so much to say and post about my experience on the Riverside Mozart. I am now sitting at the Budapest airport awaiting my flight to Frankfurt and reflecting, so this will be the first post of many to come.

First of all, let me stress this is without a doubt a luxury experience, and the staff is superb! Each guest has both a suite attendant and a butler and the entire ship greets you by name. Your suite is made up twice a day, and you can ask for any special wines, liquors, etc that you want in your mini bar. I am not a big drinker. I just asked for plenty of still water (not very exciting), but my butler saw how excited I got by the chocolate covered strawberries he put in my room at turn down one night, so every night after he put a new flavor. 😍

The amazing ladies in the shore excursion team worked nonstop to make sure everyone had fun, was aware of meeting times, did not miss out and that we had a full range of great activities. The shore excursions offered were excellent!

I have already mentioned the food, but I have to mention again, because it was so that delicious! Riverside was recently named best river cruise line for food by Forbes Magazine and I absolutely see why. Each meal was somehow better than the last. The servers were excellent and knowledgeable on the ingredients, and I love as a food allergy Mom, that on all menus each ingredient and all allergies are clearly listed.

The hotel director of this ship, Sonja, is excellent. I was honored to get to have dinner with her and learn more about the vision of this wonderful company. I absolutely recommend it to my clients. Do you see that castle up on the hill? That is Visegrad, a medieval fortress on the bank of the Danube. The first picture is taken from the Riverside Mozart where we docked. All of the rest were taken from atop the mighty fortress looking down below. I ventured up, toured this amazing site, then we were treated to Hungarian beer and bread. Now we are back on the ship and headed to beautiful Budapest for one more full day of amazing tours, great service and fabulous food!

This morning we docked in beautiful Estergom, Hungary. We toured the Basilica and the Treasury. Our ship was able to pull up right into the center of this beautiful town. The Basilica was gorgeous. We also toured the crypts below which is not offered on many excursions. We then went back to the ship and now we are sailing to Visegrad. Another beautiful morning!

Today was our second full day in Vienna. I love that our itinerary gave us plenty of time to explore this amazing city. This morning I took an excursion to the Spanish Riding School. I was absolutely entranced by the beautiful Lippizzaner Stallions. What an amazing sight!

Then I took another walk through old town and headed back to the boat for lunch. After lunch, I took another tour to the Schönbrunn Palace. This was the main summer residence of the Hapsburg Dynasty, and I believe another must see when visiting Vienna.

Last night we arrived in beautiful Vienna and our evening started with amazing Tapas in our cruise bistro. Then we boarded our bus for a private concert at The Belvedere Palace. This was a special treat just for guests of Riverside Cruiseline. We enjoyed champagne orchestra music and opera. It was fabulous!
This morning we saw a panaromic tour of Vienna. Some by bus, then a walking tour.
We were back for another delicious lunch and this afternoon we will tour the palace and parliament.
The excursions and local guides have been extraordinary!

Cracking up at the bag from the souvenir shop I just purchased from in Vienna. Did you know that there are so many passengers that book Austria by mistake INSTEAD of Australia when booking air that they have a desk for rebooking flights SPECIFICALLY just for those guests! Now, they are both amazing destinations, but VERY different!

If you know me you know I LOVE good food. I’m currently sailing on the Riverside Mozart and let me tell you their food is culinary team is fantastic! I have enjoyed 3 meals so far, each one some how better than the next. I am also thoroughly impressed by their allergy options already on the menu (they can of course be modified to further adjust to clients needs if guests require.) I took a Galley today, and the Mozart has the largest Galley on any river in the world. Not only is this a fabulous ship (I will post more on that soon), with amazing crew and itineraries, but if delicious and inventive food is important to you-let’s talk about Riverside Cruises!

I had an amazing stay last night at The W Budapest. This hotel could not better located. It is directly across the street from the Opera House. This building was built in 1886 and was the Ballet school. It sat dormant for years until The W purchased and restored it to its former glory. The stained glass, the ironwork flooring and stone are gorgeous! The rooms are so spacious and the staff are so kind and helpful! The food I tried was all delicious! My only sadness was that I only stayed here one night.

At the age of 89, Opal Lee took a different kind of journey when she set out to walk 1400 miles from her home in Fort Worth, Texas to Washington D.C. to call attention to her lifelong dream of making Juneteenth a national holiday.

Her path took a turn (as they often do), and supporters instead encouraged Ms. Lee to take shorter walks along the route: a series of 2.5 mile outings to symbolize the two and a half years it took for the Emancipation Proclamation to reach Texas after it was issued. Juneteenth commemorates that day in 1865 when Union soldiers at long last arrived in Galveston to announce the end of the Civil War and slavery.

Opal Lee’s tireless efforts brought national attention to this significant day of freedom, and in 2021 President Joe Biden signed the bill making Juneteenth a national holiday. Celebrated as a day of liberation, reflection, and community — it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. A road that we ultimately share and are responsible for as fellow travelers.
