My Story
My name is Kyle Colbert and my wife Joy and I recently purchased Lake Vermilion Houseboats in May of 2017. We moved north from Iowa to pursue our dream of owning our own business in the Northwoods. We have three children Chance, Croy (named after St Croix Rods), and Canon Ranger (named after Ranger Boats). My passion is fishing, especially walleye fishing. I have tournament fished since 2008, starting with small club tournaments and working my way up to the Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit, which is the longest running team professional walleye circuit in the country! I fished the Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit from 2011-2016 honing my walleye fishing skills from the Dakota Reservoirs, Minnesota Natural Lakes, Iowa & Illinois River Systems, and the Great Lakes of Wisconsin, Michigan, & Ohio! Even though Lake Vermilion is fairly new to me, I am confident that I have the knowledge and equipment to catch fish on any technique and in any condition.
I purchased “Casey’s Guide Service” from Casey Sundahl in November of 2017. Casey guided on Lake Vermilion for 12 years, earning the reputation as one of the best guides on the lake. Casey was looking at getting out of guiding and I was looking to jump start my own guide business. We met through a mutual friend, agreed to a deal we both felt was beneficial for each of us, and the transition has been smooth.
I am proud to say we will be fishing out of the best boat on the market! I have a Ranger 621FS, powered by a 300HP Mercury Verado & 9.9 Mercury ProKicker. I have all the accessories needed to catch fish and then some, just ask my wife Joy! All fishing tackle and bait are provided during your trip. I will do my absolute best to put my clients on fish, as well as, ensure they have an enjoyable day on the best lake in Minnesota. Yes, I said it! Taking into consideration Lake Vermilion's size, scenery, fishing, recreation, and solitude it would be hard to find a better lake that is entirely within the state of Minnesota.
